What is best for cleaning cages?
Hi! I was wondering what would be the best thing to use to clean out a hamster cage? With my past hamster I used a pet-safe antibacterial cleaner but I've been told it's best to use warm soapy water. If so, what kind of soap? I feel like it should be unscented hand-wash but I'm not 100% sure... any help would be great, thanks!

Re: What is best for cleaning cages?
Unless a hamster has been ill you don't need disinfectant or if you have areas that have been badly stained with pee you might want to use it, I use Safe4 unscented pet safe disinfectant if I really need to use any.
Most of the time just a damp paper towel will be all you need for general cleaning.
If you need soap just normal washing up liquid is fine but you do need to rinse thoroughly to remove residues & smell.
Some people suggest vinegar but tbh the smell is so strong I prefer not to, it needs an awful lot of rinsing to remove the smell.

Re: What is best for cleaning cages?
I tend to find that disinfectant is only necessary when you've got a hamster who has been unwell or you've got a particularly stained area of the cage.
I usually use just warm water with a very tiny bit of washing up liquid and then a pet safe disinfectant when I'm either using a cage that has been in storage for a while or if I'm putting a cage away into storage after being used.
