Default Dwarf hamster question

Soo, I got a 92 qt bin to plan to make a bin cage for my daughters hamster cage. Unfortunetly family events have came up so I havent' been able to complete it.(the ventilation of it ). I have a crittertrail turn about habitat as well but it's so small for him. I placed him in the bin without the lid and he runs around joyfully. altho now hes been trying to jump along the edges (sometimes) not often he doesn't get too high.
One night I tried to put him back in his smaller cage to be shape well he got loose from my hands got onto the floor (luckily it wasn't a far drop as I freaked out he was gonna get hurt and knelt to the floor) after a good 5 mins i got him put him in his crittertrail for the night. @ one point of cleaning the big wheel I disc the tube and blocked the edge with a red light tube blocking thing (not sure the name) well this evening he happened to climb up his cage into the tube that wasnt near the floor of the cage and almost out. At this time He's playing joyfully in his bin.
My Question is how far can dwarfs jump up. i know when he jumps he gets about 2 inhes off the ground. I kind of want to leave him in his bin cage over night without the lid (no vents) but I'm nt sure if i should. he just seems so much happier

If you left him without the lid but took every single precaution to make sure the bin is escape proof,it might work temporarily, but definitely not over a long term period and tomorrow you absolutely must make the lid.

As for how far they can jump I'm not certain, but I know that anything is possible to be climbed on and if not immediately climbable hamsters can and will make things climbable. For example, they may pile up substrate to escape or block up a wheel so it can be climbed or if they can get their paws on a bottle(even without a guard, which by the way some are very unsafe)they can escape too easily

Is there nothing you could put on the top to use as a temporary lid? Just as hamsters are cunning escape artists.

I've never really tried to estimate how high they can jump but you can just about guarantee it will be twice as far as you think!

I would never risk leaving any cage without a lid on, just try to get the bin done or at least some ventilation in the lid as soon as you can & keep him somewhere safe until then.

If you don't have the time or the tools to finish the bin properly just get a piece of mesh larger than the bin, cut it at the corners so you can bend it over the edges then put something on top like books at the ends to stop it getting knocked off.

Thank you for the heads up. The same night I posted I was too paranoid to leave him alone as you all advised I reconnected his critter trail fully including the link to his big wheel.. (it was disc b/c he likes to take his bedding up there to nest). Right now, we are going through some family obstacles (losing a loved one ) so unfortunetly not trying to neglect the lil guy too much but bin cage has taken a back seat since he has another cage available. I will get it resolved soon though. Yes i never really thought he would even climb all the way up the cage to the higher level tube. so I know hes proven me wrong once.. LOL. thanks again
