Default Looking for large attractive cage recommendations

It's been a long while since I have kept hamsters so I have lost touch with what cages are acceptable. I'm looking for a good sized cage for a Syrian hamster. I'm not keen on the diy cages as personally I think they look messy. I have a Freddy savic cage I used to keep rats in. Would this be acceptable? It is rather high so I would be worried about a fall. Also I don't want to be meshing over the. Are if the gaps are too big.

I used to have quite a large cage with a domed roof that I quite liked. Does anyone know what this cage could have been?

Hi there. The Freddy is very tall - it would probably need a full level putting in at least. If you're in the market for a new cage, something with a bigger floor area and less height would be better for a Hammy. Large cage with domed roof - could that be an Alexander cage? Lovely cage! Perfect for a Syrian

Great deals on small pet cages at zooplus: Alexander Small Pet Cage

Another cage/tank that is popular and looks good and suitable for any species of hamster is the detolf. If you have some spare wall space for it. Most people have it sat on top of two small kallax units so it not only looks the business but has storage underneath as well. It does need a little bit of diy, in that you need to make a lid out of wood and mesh, but some lids look quite smart.

It's an Ikea glass cabinet that costs £40. Tipped on it's back with the glass door left off (and without the shelves).

DETOLF Glass-door cabinet Black-brown 43x163 cm - IKEA

A Syrian would be happy in either of those I think.

The depth of the Detolf is pretty small for a Syrian actually.

DIY can look messy but that depends on how you make it.Some DIY cages look gorgeous and very professional,as long as the time is taken to give them a finished look and they're not just thrown together!Melamine and acrylic combine with each other for a very nice modern look, and if you buy these in bulk where possible it does tend to be cost effective(usually much better value than any premade cage and better than the Detolf if made in square meter plus sizes).

That's true, the detolf is only about 43cm deep but it makes up for it in length maybe. I guess it depends if you prefer cages and tanks. Syrians seem to like the Alexander.

I would say either the Alexander that Serendipity mentioned or the Barney which is similar but cheaper or if you're not on a tight budget there's the Savic Plaza also available from Cages world but more expensive there, it has the great advantage of a really nice big door & looks great (can you tell I want one lol!).

The Detolf length is great but that doesn't change the width
