Default Bringing the cage home.

So hello. I'm Furini. I plan on getting a Syrian. My parents said probably I can get one so I'm planning it already. I am sure that I'll get a 40 gallon from PetSmart during the dollar per gallon sale. We don't have a car, but we do have a bus and subway available. I don't know how well carrying a 3 by 2 foot tank will work out, in public. So any tips??

Hello and welcome!

Carrying a 40 gallon about is definitely going to present a struggle for you! Is there any way a friend could perhaps drive you? A 40 gallon tank will weigh about 58-60 pounds when empty so carrying it will be tough without something like a cart to push it in. Besides it being extremely heavy, it will also be extremely awkwardly sized and thus difficult to have on you in general. If you absolutely can't get someone to drive you, I'd recommend that you get one or two others to help you carry it and hold on your laps (because I think you'd also get some disapproving looks when half your seat is being taken up by a tank). Good luck getting it home, someone on here may have some better tips Best wishes

I'd suggest getting a bin instead and making a bin cage It's cheaper, easy to move, and can actually be expanded if necessary unlike a tank(even a 40 gallon tank can be too small for a Syrian).

The cost doesn't end at just the tank by the way,and if you do end up with a Syrian needing more space(extremely likely, actually,as Syrians do need quite a bit of space)you'll end up wasting a lot of money(40 for the tank alone at Petco, not Petsmart as they don't do the sale, and then anywhere from 20-40 for a lid,and if you don't have a stand that can end up costing over 100 dollars extra).
