Re: Wood Shaving Bedding
From your pics Lil that looks like it could be Pinus Densiflora or Korean Red Pine sometimes also called the Japanese Red Pine and is indigenous to SE Asia.
I believe that it is closely related to the Scots Pine.
If you used wood shavings from this, I would make sure that it has been kiln dried as Pines do have a large amount of resins in them which may prove to be poisonous to small animals.
Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure it's a species of cypress. My husband found the scientific name and it's a type of cypress native to Japan.

Re: Wood Shaving Bedding
Cypress is not a good idea It's popular among the reptile community due to being able to absorb moisture but also add humidity,in other words it would cause serious humidity problems for such animals(as the humidity being so high could cause respiratory problems).
Just go with Oxbow,it's the safest option you have and nowhere near as risky as any wood substrate.
