Adding another winter white?
Could I add another winter white to my existing cage?
I have a male in a massive side-by-side bin cage. Thanks!
P.S. Long time no see!

Re: Adding another winter white?
If you mean put two unrelated hamsters together then no, they would fight & you would be risking serious injury, if you mean split the cage into two & keep them separately if the cage is big enough then that would be fine.

Re: Adding another winter white?
Culprit as long as they can't escape & be in each others presence. Definitely don't put them together. Are you taking away space from your current hammy?
If so it might not be fair to your hammy. If you do get another Pet make sure they are the same sex as they will have trouble with picking up mating scents in the room.

Re: Adding another winter white?
I would not attempt to put two together. Most end up falling out anyway, so you'd be better off having another male Winter White in its own cage. I would not blame you for wanting another one though .
Welcome back by the way

Not together in the same cage. Is this home you have big enough to be split?
Welcome Back!

Re: Adding another winter white?
Maybe wait and get another hammy later on when you have the space instead!Unless you would be willing to consider a robo or Chinese and could fit a cage for those two species, which is pretty easy since they tend not to need as much space,of course

Re: Adding another winter white?
Best just to enjoy Zero for now then, it is nice to have more than one but at least you can give Zero your undivided attention
Amity I wouldn't be so sure Chinese & Robos need less space, I keep thinking my Chineseys could all do with bigger cages than they already have!

Robos need space to run, so I would say at minimum 360 or 450 sq in
Chinese tend to need less space even 15 gal tanks would work nicely

Re: Adding another winter white?
They still need space, but not to the extent of a Syrian for example They're still much easier to house, though there will be individuals with more of a need for space. The basic 360-450 square inch minimum is fine though,at minimum, for either Chinese or robos. You will never catch me saying that for other species though!
