Default Wheels Akin to Cinderella's Slipper

Hi!

I have a long haired syrian named Charlie. He is on his way to earning the gold metal in the next Olympics for gymnastics. He loves climbing those bars!

I am trying to offer him more diverse opportunities to play, explore, and exert his energy. I have been trying to find a wheel that will fit his little robust self.

He's between 5 and 6 inches (about 12cm to 15cm). I recently ordered an 8.5 cm wheel, but I am unsure if he will fit that one. I don't mind ordering online or brick and mortar shopping. I've already purchased two wheels and they were the wrong size.

I just want him to be happy and health.

Thank you all in advance!

Maria

I think your best bet is going to be a 12" silent runner! 8.5cm [I'm assuming you meant inches] is going to be too small and will likely make your hams back arch. I bought my silent runner off eBay, it was pricey [around £30] but its super quiet, safe and has no spindle for his hair to get caught on, would definitely recommend!

Silent Runner Wheel 12 inch wide - Silent Runner Wheel 12 inch (WIDE)

That would be the best place to get the Silent Runner in the US,not eBay etc.The Silent Runner is the best wheel on the market for hamsters, considering it is completely safe in ways that other wheels have never really helped! The lack of spindle as mentioned is one very good safety feature, along with being an enclosed wheel which allows a hamster to feel more secure. The wheel itself is more durable and long lasting than other wheels, and is overall just a superior quality wheel. The stand is solid as well, which is extremely important to prevent trapping behind wheel stands or sometimes having a hamster climb on the stand from underneath during a cage cleaning for example. It is going to cost you more than the cheaper wheels on the market, but it is completely worth it!

The wide version is definitely worth getting too by the way, which is what is linked

I have the silent runner for two of my syrians and the karlie wooden wheel from zooplus for the other one. Both are great wheels and lets them run with straight backs.

I have a medium sized hammy, 130 lbs max. I had two 9in Silent Runners (yellow) & Heaven fits in her wheel perfectly. But the 12 in would be better if I didn't already have the 9in wheel.

I have the two wheels from using them for my past Russian dwarves

I'm also going to point you in the direction of the silent runner it's such a high quality wheel and it's so quiet too! The 12 inch version will be best. Syrians will be okay on 8.5 inch wheels for a short period of time, but will eventually need at least a 10 inch. For a second choice, the Wodent wheel would be an excellent one and it's pretty quiet as well (unless you lose the pin). These wheels can be ordered off of many sites, eBay, Amazon, exotic nutrition, and I believe Martin's cages sells it as well!

Wow!! Thank you all for pointing me to the right direction. Charlie is a big fella and the 12 inch makes total sense. It makes sense to keep his back straight. Thank you all for the great information.

Personally, I all our hamsters have had Wodent Wheels. These wheels can be found on Amazon.

They are perfect for Syrians(even the junky ones)! c;

They come in a multitude of color combinations. I haven't had any problems with this type of wheel. It is probably the best ones that are easy to get in our area.

Hope this helps you!
