I just remembered these! And less heavy than a tank. There is a 90cm one, a 100cm one and a 120cm one. Some have perspex at the front, some have mesh. I think the perspex fronted ones are best for a hamster. You'd get loads of floor area without the height. No cheaper than the Marrakesch, but no glass and more floor area for the price. The height is also better at about 44cm high so you could fit lots of substrate in and a big wheel. I think they are already pre-plastikoted as well (the wood inside) at least the floor is.

The largest one is 120cm wide by 60cm deep.

OOps - just realised - she could chew through the wood as it's pine The wood on the end of the Marrakesch is really hard and no edges to get at I think.

Better option maybe. For about the same price as the Marrakesch Jungle Pets would custom make a tank with a shelf and a mesh lid. They quote £94.99 for a 4 foot tank that is 45cm tall but it's only about 33cm deep. They will make it any size you want but it would cost a bit more to have it 45 or 50 cm deep. Or you could go for a 3 foot one that is 50cm deep and 45cm high - prob cost about the same. Delivery is £35 though. It would be heavy.

Yes I can imagine that the weight is going to be a factor but I don't like to move the housing around anyway so it's all good!

I would like to ask one more question if I may, what water bottle did you use with your kerry? can Syrians use the living world bottle stand or did you make your own?
many thanks x

I think some people use heavy duty velcro inside a tank. I have used bottle stands but they can tip over a bit as well and be a fiddle. Living world make one to fit their bottle, if you like that bottle - I could never get on with it and worried in case it got knocked over and hurt the hammy! It's quite big and heavy. I like the Ferplast drinky mouse sized bottles - they always seem to let water out well and not drip. Although I'm so paranoid about them letting water out I used to leave it slightly unscrewed and then it did drip a tiny bit. The classic mouse bottles are popular too. They'd probably need to be stuck on with velcro. It's quite effective but maybe doesn't look so glamorous!

I did have a Rodipet water bottle stand that holds the classic mouse bottles - it was a bit of an extravagance. Very nice but placing it was always tricky. It's better on something flat and firm like a house roof or shelf - but it won't fit on them as then it's too tall! So I also had the granite square from Rodipet and stood it on that which worked well except I then worried our hammy would tunnel under it and the granite fall on him and hurt him. I gave up with having a bottle stand eventually - I think it's easier having them on the side of the tank/cage.

I would think in the Marrakesch you would be having the substrate reasonably deep in most places so not easy to stand a bottle stand on as well.

I whinge about bottles - they're a pain. I do like the Ferplast Drinkys though. The bar clip they come with wouldn't be much use in the tank, but they're not too expensive. I used to get two at a time to save on postage and have a spare. Haven't found them easily available anywhere else.

You can make a water bottle stand - there are various suggestions around. I like the one where you cut the top of a small mineral water bottle, so you're left with the long straight bit. You put stones (cleaned) in the bottom to weigh it down and keep it stable and make a hole in one side at the right height for the bottle spout to go through. But they can still get knocked over lol.

It's a pain when you get left with a cage top and no base. Happened to me recently with a broken cage base after we moved house. I was going to repair it but a piece was missing. Then I thought about making a new cage base out of perspex - it was going to cost more than a new cage lol.
