Default Thinking of changing Phoebe's cage

I'm thinking of changing Phoebe's cage, but I can't decide what to go for!!

This is what she's in at the moment, a Ferplast Laura - I consider it minimum standard really

She's not too fussed on the tubes any more, and I'd like to give her more floor space. I'm not sure if you can see in the picture, she has a hammock next to the shelf/above the wheel- she uses this as a "step" to get downstairs rather than go all the way around the tubes. She's not very active in her cage anymore, although is very active at out-time.

She's a big hamster (150g) and I think I'd just like her to be in a more spacious environment.

This is where the cage is - and there's no room for manoeuvre, the size of the bookcase top (60cm x 28cm) dictates the size of the cage!

I was initially thinking of putting a Paula on the shelf next to it and linking them up, but I've failed several times to pick one up cheap on eBay, and buying one new I may as well spend the money on a more spacious main cage!!!

Just can't decide which larger cage to go for.....Ferplast Rainbow & Savic Cambridge both work out around the #40 mark, a bit too much, although I've spotted a Cambridge on eBay I'm keeping an eye on. Gabber Rex is a bit cheaper abut #35 but is 10cm longer than my bookcase!!! Finally Ferplast Criceti 10 is cheapest around #28, same size as Rainbow but not sure if the ones here http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acat ... mster.html have the shelf in that the old one I've got stored at my parents has.

I could always wait until Jan when I can pick up the Criceti 10 I own from my parents........but I want now! Teehee, plus I never mind having extra cages (roll on graduation and my house of hamster!!!)

What do you guys think I should go for - do you think it needs changing??? It actually looks smaller than it is in that picture, bear in mind that's a Savic Jumbo Rolly wheel.

Daisy has exactly the same cage and is quite happy in it. the tubes are now her hiding place when she sees me coming with the Baytril.....

I really like the Ferplast Rainbow Emma. It's massive and Byron and Noah really like it. I was lucky enough to win both on eBay some time ago.

I use Imac Fantasy as well but it doesnt appeal to everyone.

The cage you have looks fine Emma and as long as Phoebe gets lots of fun out time I'm sure she is quite happy. We like the Gabbar Rex but if it won't fit in it won't fit in! Ours was £24.99 from local small pet shop. He ordered it in from a catalogue he had.

The cage she's in looks fine Emma! If she seems quite happy then you can jut leave it as older hamsters don't move around as much. It might be a bit stressful for her too, moving into a new cage with a new scent.

I'd try to get another Paula or Laura for her on eBay eventually and link via the tubes - bet she will use them then when they lead to a whole new kingdom

I am just waiting on Mimosa's early Christmas pressie arriving it is a Critter 2 which sometimes is calle a Terenziani Duval.

I have a smaller one at the moment, the Critter 1

or Canova and I tried to join it to another Critter 1 with tubes but I failed miserably and effectivly killed a perfectly good cage

It can fit 2/3 ratties so she should have a ball in there. I have other shelves that I may use, but I will have a play about with the layout.

I am all excited, pet centre online has emailed to say that the cage has been dispatched, so any day now!

*sigh* I must get a life......

Santa is bringing her a Junior Wodent Wheel for her new luxury home

The cage was supposed to be for xmas, but I have no patience and couldn't wait.

I shall try to not let my ratties see so that they don't get jealous

My two rats are in a Critter 3 - room enough for 6 rats according to some cage calculators - I think it's watching them enjoy all that space that makes me feel Phoebe doesn't have enough room!

Here's Phoebs in her cage - she doesn't look too cramped I guess

I'm still going to keep an eye on eBay though.
