Sand
I'm sterilizing play sand for my new hamster, and have been hunting all over for a sifter.
No luck.
Since it's just to remove large rocks from the sand, is it really necessary to sift through the sand?

Re: Sand
I wouldn't really say so it is, at least in my opinion. I've never sifted through any sand of mine and it's always worked just fine for my hams. However, if you're concerned about it you can always use a strainer made to drain water from pasta, I'll leave a link to one below

Re: Sand
It would be best to sift the sand. The things that would remain otherwise shouldn't be put in the hamster's cage, and even though it takes extra effort it is much better to put more time and energy into something initially rather than to take a huge risk and compromise any form of safety especially at the risk of expensive vet bills.
A pasta sifter/strainer is perfect as mentioned! You just need something with a very fine mesh much like the pasta ones,it doesn't have to be anything expensive

Re: Sand
Although this isn't as fail-proof, I put a small amount of sand in a covered tin can, and shook it around so I could see the large rocks from the smaller. Then I scraped away the larger rocks before placing the sand in Titania's cage. Would this be okay?

Re: Sand
It isn't quite as thorough,so I'd say no.

Re: Sand
I just used an old piece of leggings to separate the large rocks from the sand. It looks pretty fine now. Can I use this?
