Have you heard of a wheel called Carolina Storm Express? This is an excellent wheel. I have it for my hammy and it is perfectly silent. For the size and quality, it is also a fairly good price. Hope this helped!

CSE are very expensive They're an awkward size that only suits a small range of hamsters, and due to the open front and being so big I would never say they're good for robos. They also take up more space than a Silent Runner would, which is a problem in robo sized cages.

The Silent Runner is also silent, takes up less room in general, has a better size range(9 inches for all dwarf hamsters,12 inches for all Syrians)and is just as good quality with a better design.

I will give the CSE credit for the color range, but other than that it is in some ways overly hyped much like plenty other products.

Our plan is to buy a long fish tank and create our own cage, just finding the perfect size tank that's not too expensive can be tough, but we actually found one online today that should be perfect, so hopefully can start asap.

I have the space it's just finding the right equipment that's not ridiculously overpriced. I've seen so many amazing homemade cages/houses with different substrates etc and am excited, but we are definitely getting the silent runners on pay day, luckily with a hamster each we can buy one each so won't be too hard and will be worth the money in the long run for them

Again thank you all for your input and advice!

An IKEA detolf (glass display cabinet) may be a cheaper option that a large fish tank.

Laid on its back makes a tank. You just have to make a lid.

The Detolf would still be great for robos even split in two!Unlike with other species, half a Detolf would still be a pretty good amount of space for robos or Chinese. It would take up more space than some alternatives, but with the desire for a tank or tank style cage is is definitely a good idea The value as a pair of robo cages isn't bad, same with reusing it as a Russian dwarf cage.On its own it isn't the best for Syrians though but if you chose to reuse one eventually for a Syrian you could always expand it into a double Detolf to make it better for Syrians.

Yes do you know about detolf's alipali? Here it is - £40 for a large glass cabinet/tank. You make the lid from strips of wood and mesh - there are a few tutorials on this on youtube.

It makes a lovely big habitat. And as Amity says, if you ever needed to separate them, you could divide it in two.

DETOLF Glass-door cabinet Black-brown 43x163 cm - IKEA

Here are some sample set ups

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Ha...ImCmcQ_AUIBigB

It does need something to stand on though (and I guess a fish tank would too). Some people use two of these with a gap between them. They are the right depth for a detolf to sit on and give storage underneath too. I picked one up for £10 on ebay recently.

KALLAX Shelving unit Oak effect 77x77 cm - IKEA

A cheaper option to stand it on is two of these

LACK Coffee table Oak effect 90x55 cm - IKEA

Or three of these

LACK Side table Black 55x55 cm - IKEA

You don't need to spend a lot on contents. Wheels are the important thing to buy. Houses can be made from a shoebox (cut the bottom out and a hole in the side for a door and use the lid as a lift-off roof). Kitchen roll inner tubes and cardboard egg boxes can make good toys. What you mainly need is lots and lots of substrate.

A lot of people (me included) like Fitch substrate which works out very economical as you can buy it in 10kg or 20kg bags. The 10kg bag is about £16.99 and the 20kg bag isn't much more at about £20. It's recycled food grade paper. Looks a bit like Carefresh but has no dust.

The more you use, the less you use When you have it deep for tunneling in a large cage or tank, you don't need to do big cage cleans very often and can maybe spot clean and just replace the odd handful now and then. I used to just do a substrate clean about every 3 months and even then I'd re-use the bottom half of the substrate (or the dry half, whichever) so it still smelled familiar.

They are stiff hazel and luna - that's the problem with them now. It's a shame. I would get something else - hammies need to run!
