Talking Connecting two by cages.....that taper

I'm considering getting two of these and making them into bin cages:
SAMLA Box with lid - 22 ½x15 ¼x11 "/12 gallon - IKEA
However if you look closely at the pictures you can see that the box tapers out slightly. How should I connect them then?

The way I connect bins that taper is simply by cutting out the front panels (where you'll be connecting it) and keeping the bins pushed up against each other until the top rims touch. Then you'll have a space between the bins on either side obviously, so I usually mesh this space so they can't escape. This obviously isn't the best way to do it as your ham will be walking over whatever surface the bins are on top of, but it can work! Hopefully someone else has some better method. (Sorry if I didn't explain this very well, I can get a picture of one of my tapered bins like this if you need it)

Yeah, I need a picture...
Thanks!
I've also been considering using some sort of tubing to connect the cages too..
Any advice on that?

Maybe you already know it, but, do you know that there's a bigger size?

SAMLA Box - IKEA

With it you don't have to connect two, but yes, it would be slightly smaller.

I heard that some people use a tube to connect the two bins (making a hole on them to fit the tube), I heard that other people just cut the right side of one, and the left side of the other, and they connect them with zip ties. But I've never have done any of those methods so i really don't know if they would work well

I know about the bigger cage, but considering how it's more expensive as well as smaller than the two cages, I decided to not get it.

Tubing would be a waste of money and would not get the desired true extra floor space Zip ties and attaching bins together instead as mentioned would be much better, plus you'd actually get more floor space. You can easily expand even more later on if your hamster shows obsessive behaviors and such, and do so in a way that would actually be appropriate rather than modular additions

Could I just use a very short (cheap, too) piece of PVC to connect the two cages? Sort of like this:

Also, as I mentioned above, I wouldn't be able to use the zip tie method because the walls of the bins wouldn't touch.

You could use PVC granted it was around a 4 inch or more diameter. This way your ham could run continuously without having to stop and it'd be essentially the same as cutting out the front panels

It would technically still be a modular addition,so I can't say it would necessarily pass as being true floor space that is added.

I think if you were to get a piece of PVC with a large enough diameter it could still count as floor space
