Fixable or not?
Unfortunately the base of the Savic Mickey 2XL got damaged when we moved house. My first reaction was - not fixable - but I'm not sure. What do you think? I have the piece that is missing. And I guess the cracks could be glued, but not sure if I could make it sound so no sharp edges.
Excuse the state of my hands! Been doing too much work.

Re: Fixable or not?
Eeek! I'd say probably not, but then I'm not a DIY kind of person! I'd be worried about the glue being chewed and not sure how you'd make it not sharp?

Re: Fixable or not?
You might be able to sand down any sharp edges, I'm not sure if glues that are strong enough to hold it would be toxic or not though, gorilla super glue gel would do it no problem or even normal gorilla glue but I really don't know about safety issues. you could maybe hold it all together with gorilla tape (amazing stuff!) on the outside & fill any gaps or small cracks on the inside with normal pva glue.... possibly!

Re: Fixable or not?
I'm wondering if you could use some kind of sealant (perhaps an aquarium sealant) to stick together the cracks and then use something like a plastic patch to cover the hole, similar to what's mentioned in this tutorial: Mending a chewed cage

Re: Fixable or not?
Thank you all! And thanks for that link Fluffagrams - I was looking for it! Aquarium sealant sounds good. If it was stuck together properly there shouldn't be any sharp edges and I could patch the hole except don't have a soldering iron. I'm in two minds! I don't use the cage but kept it in case Charlie ever needed something smaller again. If done well it would be ok for him as he doesn't dig or chew, but not sure if it would be ok for another hamster in future. The other option is just keep the barred top and look out for a second hand hamster heaven base (same size).

Re: Fixable or not?
Aquarium sealant would definitely be a good option,as long as you don't mind waiting two days or so for it to cure so it is safe!I think it would be one of the safest options actually, where things like taping the outside could be risky if the crack got larger or somehow a hamster got to the tape after chewing at the crack.

Re: Fixable or not?
How about a strip of plastic, acrylic, Perspex etc on the outside and glue or sealant to joint the crack etc.
The outside piece could possibly be heated so it melts a bit then laid on and if need be held in place while it cools and fixes to the outside.

Re: Fixable or not?
Aquarium sealant on the cracks sounds good. Use some scraps of plastic on the broken part the use sealant to smooth it out. Add a few pieces of duck tape on the outside for extra support
