Default plain toilet paper as substrate?

I can't afford to buy more carefresh until the 20th and there's no cheaper alternative where I live (except woodshavings but Stephano's allergic ) so I was wondering if it would be okay to use torn up pieces of toilet paper as an alternative?

If it's just for a few days it should be fine, as long as it is just plain unscented loo roll/tissue/soft paper towel. The toilet corner will definitely need to be wiped and changed daily as it will soak through and smell really fast.
Lots of people mention on here that Fitch bedding is much more economical than Carefresh and is less dusty also, so good for hams who have allergies. The only thing is it comes in a 10kg bag so it's a bit bulky but people seem to store it just fine. It will definitely last you much longer if you find the Carefresh to be too pricey

I've just bought my first bag of fitch to try and they have a new 1kg bag so I've got that to try it before I commit to the 10kg bag.

Yeah it's just for a week until I can get more substrate. I'll try the fitch bedding, I've got to order them a new cage so I'll get the substrate at the same time
