Cool 40 gallon lid

So I have my hamster peanut in a 40 gallon breeder tank
She has all she needs
And she can't escape
But should I buy a lid for it
I could hang some hammocks and kabobs
Please reply
Thanks

If you buy a lid the wire spacing is likely to be too small to hang things.Hammocks are also not that good anyways, especially since hamsters tend to chew fabric plus the clips included with storebought hammocks are generally unsafe and can cause toe injuries(and have for example Petco hammocks having caused a mouse to lose a toe!)as well as the issue of cotton fluff material more often than not being inside of them which is extremely dangerous for obvious reasons.

That is very expensive! You'd probably save money building your own out of untreated pine and 1/2 inch mesh I know mesh can be found for $13 or less, and wood shouldn't cost much either. You can make more than one lid though, which is the good thing about just buying materials and doing certain things yourself!

Personally I think every tank should have a lid! You never can tell with hams when they might find a way to escape, with a lid you can have deeper substrate & things higher up in the tank without having to worry.
It's fairly easy to make one with wood & mesh that would allow you to have some hanging toys as well as a more secure tank.

A tank lid is best. With a secure lid you can have platforms and hanging toys, like a kabob and possibly even a Sputnik with less risk of your hamster escaping.

Is it a Zilla lid that's $25? It's a good option if you don't like diy. I also think a tank should always have a lid, for the same reasons cyper mentions. Even if you don't hang hammocks you can hang chill and chew mats for roof cover or variety and also large cardboard rat sized tubes or cork logs - makes an extra roof level run, easy to access if the substrate is deep. If the mesh is fine you could use paperclips (unbend them into straight wire with a small hook end to keep it above the top of the mesh) maybe to attach things.

Certain tanks won't work with the lids and clips for Zilla I know my Aqueon(from Petco at the dollar per gallon sale)tank didn't work with Zilla clips,so that is something to keep in mind before you waste money!
