Except you can buy a new one for £34 at Zooplus! But if it's new it would save a few pounds

If it's for dwarf hamsters you could also go with a duna tank or bin cage as mentioned above. I haven't had dwarf hamsters, but I find the Alaska, Barney and Alexander all quite tall cages - they could work really well for a dwarf hamster but would need setting up carefully to avoid fall risks from a height. My first 80cm x 50cm cage was the Savic Mickey 2XL which was a good height for a dwarf hamster (36cm internally as opposed to the Alaska and Barney which are about 44cm internally). The Savic Mickey 2XL is basically the same cage as the Hamster Heaven but with smaller bar spacing and without all the colourful plastic stuff! Only problem is it's really expensive now! About £86 on Amazon and I haven't seen it for sale anywhere else. You can get a hamster heaven for about £50 on Zooplus though.

The standard Duna Multy and Alaska are good budget options though - both about £33 and not too massive. The Alaska is a bit bigger than the standard duna multy.

Having said that, if you're upgrading it can help to keep a similar layout to the current one - although not always, if the current one is small but tall eg - it would need a change of layout then - but just from the point of view of keeping the house and wheel in a similar place in the new cage, and familiar toys.

The Alaska would give good space but you'd need to spend a bit extra maybe for a couple of levels/shelves for it. The one it comes with is ok but another one might be needed, plus you'd need a house if you haven't got one already as the little white house on the shelf isn't ideal for nesting in - something on top of the substrate and open underneath would be better.

But with extra levels and lots of substrate, it would make a good environment.

The Duna multy wouldn't need levels unless you wanted to add a platform - you can have a good depth of substrate and not the issue of fall risks. And two of those wouldn't take up too much space - you could stack them on a shelf unit.

Or as the others say - a couple of bin cages

Or a detolf divided in two to make two cages. The detolf (ikea glass cabinet tipped on its side and the door left off) costs £40 but divided would make two cages. A bit of diy involved though in partitioning it and making two lids for it.

The Grosvenor rat and hamster cage is popular too. Again it's a lower height than the Alaska and Barney - about the same height as the hamster heaven. But not as big as an Alaska either and costs a little bit more. But more or less ready to go as it comes with a shelf.

I think it would be a nice option for a dwarf hammy though. A bit bigger than a duna multy and a bit smaller than an Alaska without being too tall. The whole roof lifts out.

The hamster heaven would be fine - most people end up removing the tubes and penthouse and blocking them off.

Having said all that, I'd be paranoid about bar spacing if I had a dwarf hammy Although dwarf hammy owners say, as above, that 1cm bar spacing is ok with russian dwarfs. So if it was me I'd go for a tank style or narrow bar spacing.

Narrow bar spacing limits you to the Savic Mickey 2XL (great cage but expensive), the Barney or Alexander. Two Barney cages at 100cm wide each might be a bit much, but if you had the space and could get some extra levels for them, they'd be great. And they already come with a good house and shelf, plus an 8" wheel, although the wheel is a bit basic.

Or I'd go for two maxi duna multy's. But that would be expensive too as they are about £80 each. An alternative would be two Zoozone 2's (about the same size) - they're £45 to £50 each but need the top bars meshing.

Or two standard duna multy's - adequate - at £33 each ish.

If you need two cages, a couple of bin cages may be the cheapest option. The Ikea Samla bin is £10 then you need some mesh and cable ties and some way of cutting the plastic (hot knife or heated stanley knife I think people use).

My best friend has a Syrian who lives in a Hamster Heaven and I know she adores it. It is a nice big cage (might be better to start with this size, if they are used to a small cage) that comes with a lot of basic accessories. I do love the door as it is a large, front door. Pets At Home seem to have the most competitove price (surprisingly) at £60-65.

I think Serendipity has covered pretty much all cage options for you.
