Another good reason for using the Ultra is that you can see any health problems quicker, like urine colour change, diarrhoea, bleeding etc.

Also looks very Christmassy

That can apply to Fitch too,as it is also white Plus for those with multiple pets the larger sizes of Fitch can be even more useful whether it gets used as litter or substrate!

I heard the Ultra was less dusty than the standard Carefresh but I found it a bit dusty - a very fine dust that floated in the air - when I tried some. I much prefer Fitch - it's like Carefresh without the dust. I get the 10kg bag of Fitch - it's not too big to store and it comes in an oversized strong plastic bag - so you can squish the bag into different shapes to fit it in somewhere. Tall and thin or short and fat. I've had it tall and thin and squished between a wardrobe and the wall, and short and flat under a bedroom chair, and had it in the corner of the bedroom with a throw over it so it looks like a beanbag chair

I use hemp mat on top of Charlie's house to give a bit of insulation, and also on his shelves sometimes. I think if the substrate was deep enough it would be ok on the base of the cage (ie unlikely to get pee soaked unless you have a hammy that burrows down to pee) - but I don't think it would help with insulation much at the bottom. Best thing for keeping warm enough is a large enough house and lots and lots of strips of torn up toilet paper, so they can build a really big nest.

I do think Ultra is softer than Fitch - I have both. I have found that Fitch isn't as dusty though, so whatever is more important.

I have found lots of bits of coloured paper in my Fitch recently which is a little concerning.

I've got the ultra for now and it looks so cute and snowy in their cage! I'm ordering some fitch though - it's just a pain to have things delivered either while I'm out at work or carrying it home on the tube haha.

lol! I can just imagine trying to carry fitch on the tube Delivery can be a bit of a pain but it's well worth it once you've got a bag that will last ages.

Chesca fitch often has blue & brown bits in it, that's normal & nothing to worry about.

A US product(Kaytee Clean and Cozy)often has blue and other colored bits in it.I recall having read that it is like Fitch a recycled product, and because of that it does seem very likely that things of different colors than just plain white would show up!

I don't think you'll be able to take the Fitch on the Tube with you lol . It's MASSIVE (but I get the 20kg bag).

We have the fitch! I went for the 10kg bag purely for storage in our little flat. Totally converted though, and it doesn't actually take up as much space as I'd feared - such good value and the boys really love burrowing in it.

I haven't bothered with the hemp mat as they do have absolutely tons of substrate and torn up tissue for bedding, and we have a snuggle safe near their cage for a little extra warmth when it's very cold or the heating is off!

Also totally agreed that white bedding is the absolute bees knees for spot cleaning. Makes life 1000% times easier!

Good call from all of you
