I've used the sandy track for my Russians dwarves for about 6 mo. It seemed to work for one of them but not the other. I got the one whose nails grew trimmed at the vet.

I'm not sure which is quieter, but a wheel takes up less floor space in the cage and hamsters often look like they are running at an awkward angle when using flying saucers.
