Default Ready for a newbie!

I'm ready to get a new hamster so I'm going to go and pick him or her up tomorrow. I'm so excited! This is the cage setup I've done, can anyone suggest anything a new Syrian might want? The bowls will be filled with food and water when I bring the new little one home!

Your cage set-up looks real nice. Look forward to pics
I would put in lots of chew toys.

I have a food bowl and water bowl in there, I just haven't filled them yet.

Chew toys are a good suggestion, Hercules wasn't a chewer so I tended to use hard treats for him and they kept his teeth in good condition. Maybe the newbie will be a chewer! It's so exciting to think about learning about his/her personality!

The cage looks ok. A cardboard tunnel or plastic flexi tunnel might be a nice addition. A water bottle will be better than a bowl as a bowl is likely to get spilled or covered by substrate. There are bottles that are attached by a holder with suction cups on or a bottle guard that hangs over the top edge of the cage.

A lid is also a good idea to present escapes.

The jar/toilet/sand bath in the back left hand side would be better turned a bit so if fits right in the corner with no gap as Syrians usually put their bottoms right against the corner when going to the toilet.

A whimzee dog chew if often liked more than wooden hamster chews.

Some ripped up toilet paper for nest building. Place it up your sleeve first to get your scent on it. It can help with taming.

Thanks for the reply. I should have said that I have a lid for the cage, I just left it off for the photo. I've put some shredded toilet paper in there for nesting material too.

I'll get a water bottle and a tunnel too, and adjust the jar.

Thank you for your help everyone.

My Syrian loved digging in sand and sitting in boxes. Maybe some wooden chews around the cage?

It looks nice ... Personally I'd add a few more toys but that's just me! I just like to make sure my furry friend isn't bored lol

Maybe a few smaller toys around the empty areas, and deeper substrate if possible with something to block it off from the other part of the cage?

You could also add some toilet paper/loo roll as long as it's plain and dissolved easily with water after getting your scent on it by wearing it inside clothing for a while This could wait until the day you get your hamster though!
