Default Planning on buying a new cage

I'm considering this one http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/ca...-delivery.html
as it seems a lot of people have purchased this one and customized it.

I was just wondering, as I read one of the reviews, that you wouldn't need to put mesh over the top bars, but I noticed that some people on this forum have. Do you think it would be okay without adding mesh to the top for a syrian hamster?

I was also wondering what the recommended equipment is for making a second level? As in, where to get it from e.t.c

Any help with this would be majorly appriciated
At the moment my little Emmette has a boring aquarium tank with barely anything in it, as we cannot afford anything, but we are trying to save for him!

The Multy does not need meshed as the bar spacing is fine. Cages such as the Zoozones do though as they have wide bar spacing.
You don't really need a second level as it will only let him access the top bars to chew them. Plenty room for all sorts of toys of your choice in this cage though. Just be sure to buy big ones. Apart from a wheel ours are just as happy with cardboard boxes and plastic tunnels. We are not so keen on wooden toys as if they are weed on you cannot clean them properly.
Ours like these in particular

They also like plastic pipes from B&Q plumbing section. You can buy nice big sturdy plastic pipes there.

isn't that funny, i had one of those suspension bridges and i tried 2 hams with it, but they both hated it so i sold it!

Anyways, as for cheap toys, do you use gravy granules in those round cardboard tubs? For a free and endlessly replacable toy, cut the end off and empty one to make a tube. all my hams have these. They also enjoy empty egg boxes to chew and kick about, especially females.

You can also buy cardboard tubes from P@H called chubes and make holes in them with a needle, then thread a cable tie though and attach to the roof bars. I also like hammock and wooden swingy bridges (you can buy these on ebay). All these things can be used instead of a layer. If your ham has a wooden hut or something with a flat roof, this also acts as a platform (and keeps nails down)

Oooh I love those suspension bridges, I have been planning on getting one, that is nice and cheap too! thank you for the link. I'm not sure he'd be too keen on the puzzle kit, he is such a scardey cat when it comes to going through small areas...

but Bunsey, that is a great idea for the gravy granules tube, they are quite wide too, I think they should be wide enough for him, I will definatley give that a go, I want to see my hammy have a little fun, he's not quite on the wild side

I will probably end up giving him an egg box too!

I didn't get much decision today when it came to the cage, I wanted to wait to get the Ferplast Duna, but my partner decided we would get and extension for the 'aquarium' that we have, which cost us £60 just for the wired parts from p@h. He's had to modify it a bit to fit our cage. All seems good so far, but I would still have prefered the Ferplast! Pfft men
