Question Would this make a good bin cage?

I have a Syrian and I'm thinking of buying this mesh and the bin at Walmart. Before I do I just wanted to get your guy's opinions. I can't go any larger because of the size of my furniture.

I also have some 4 inch zip ties.

You can get 1/2 inch mesh at Home Depot which would be fine for a Syrian It's around $13-16 but you get a very good sized roll for the price(could make several bins and connect them directly by the side, therefore making it possible to have a much better cage).

Get the bins in a case of 4.You can connect them directly by sides and this will make a square meter cage possible,in fact it would be over a square meter!Four bins of that size directly connected give 2458.5876 square inches of space, which is very good. However three bins would be good too, giving 1843.9407 square inches of floor space as long as they're connected directly. You could still get the 4 pack and make one a travel cage though

Can you move things around or try and fit 3 bins somewhere? It would be a very good price for such a large cage, but that only applies to several bins and not just one bin.

I don't know about the sterilite bins to know if they're sturdy or not but I think the size is fine. It's about the same size as the tanks my Syrians are in. I'm sure someone can tell you if they're a good bin or if they're flimsy but just looking at the picture, I like the idea of the latch lid for security and I really like that the sides don't slope in like a lot of bins can. I look forward to seeing the end result. I think the trick if you're going to mesh the sides is not to go too low with the hole so you don't have to worry about the substrate falling out - but I've never made one so don't quote me on that! There should be some good inspo in the DIY section to help you plan your design & build it safely

I went to the store today to inspect the bins. They seem quite sturdy so I bought one. I'm going to make a single bin cage and see how it goes.

That's a good idea It would also give your hamster time to adjust gradually to more space if you did end up expanding further!

Yeah she's in a 20 gallon long right now, so 2 or 3 105 qt bins will be quite a lot of extra space. Also, I have to look and decide what toys and houses I want to put in.

No point in adding tons of floor space without some hiding spots.

Of course Bendable bridges,clay/terracotta flower pots, and large mugs are some that come to mind right away and are generally cost effective except when you get bendable bridges from Petsmart as those can get expensive for large ones.

The best thing to do is just be creative and improvise. It doesn't have to be expensive or from a pet shop to function, but it can be nice to have a few slightly expensive pieces if you want to have them!
