What do you think of these cages for hamsters
I came across these cages and think for the money and size they are great! Only concern would perhaps be the bar width. I particularly like this one:

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
You can fix the bar spacing on any cage with mesh However, you can get cages which are 100 cm x 100 cm from the same exact website which aren't very expensive either!
Indoor Square Cage Rabbit & Guinea Pig by Little Friends - Little Pet Warehouse
That is the exact cage I'm talking about. It's bigger, and could be more space conserving by stacking them. The other one you linked could not be stacked,so they'd take up a lot of space, which can definitely be a problem.

That's true. They defo do s good range of cages for sure. 100 x 100 would be hard to place and might be a little bit too big for some hamsters. But definitely good price for the money. I also quite liked this one:

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
I'd be worried because of the shape if a hamster climbed on the bars that they could potentially have a toe injury It might just be me,but that is always something to keep in mind just for general safety. The size could work well for some hamsters but not all though. They also have other 100 x 50 rabbit cages which have flat roofs instead of the potentially dangerous ones which are also shorter, but they don't come in white.
Rabbit 160cm LARGE Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage - Little Pet Warehouse This one is a bit less wide but much longer, though it isn't anywhere near as good a value and is very expensive in comparison.
Rabbit 140cm LARGE Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage - Little Pet Warehouse This cage however is close to a square meter and much cheaper than the 160 cm cage.

With either of those you would have to mesh the entire cage, probably not a lot cheaper in the long run by the time you've done all that & a lot more work than buying a cage designed for a hamster.

I agree with Cypher (which seems to happen a lot). Zooplus have such great cages. The alaska is only £35.00 and not much smaller than the first rabbit cage that you linked.
Two of mine have barney cages which at around £50.00 are very good value and offer a decent amount of space.

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
Hmm... Personally, I wouldn't choose a rabbit cage for a hamster. Of course, you can mesh it to reduce bar spacing. I think the cages you chose would also need to be meshed on the sides, since the ventilation slits seem rather wide for a hamster. Generally though, I think this could make opening the cage, cleaning the cage and generally interacting with your pet a bit more difficult and resolve in a daily hassle.
Also, I would recommend a cage that allows you to watch and interact with your pet from different angles, especially if you want to stack them on top of each other. My hamster finds it a little bit scary, when I put my hand in from the top of cage. But when I use one of the side doors, he is much calmer.
And I agree with the others, the cage and the mesh (and maybe some tools for the meshing) won't necessarily save you any money. A more hamster appropriate cage might cost you a little more but it would be a great investment in your pet.
If you need your cage a.s.a.p. I would definitely choose the Barney cage from zooplus. If you can wait a little bit longer and save some money for it, I would go for a cage with a clear (acrylic) glass base, like the Ferplast Karat, the Falco or the San Marino (that's the one I have and I love it! <3 ). It's so cute to watch your hamster digging its tunnels in the substrate, for me that's really worth the higher price! (Of course you could always opt for a regular glass tank and add a DIY meshed top. But these are not stackable.)

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
I don't need a cage at the moment, I just happened to come across these cages and womdefed what you all thought as potential hamster cages for the size and price. I have the Alaska cage atm and am very happy with it, it's a great cage for the money and size. I wouldn't really want to have to wire over a cage which would be a hassle and add more to the cost.

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
It definitely wouldn't be worth it to get a 100 x 50 cage then.Stick to the Alaska for now, until you're ready for a more significant upgrade that would be worth the money Rabbit cages do have potential, but it does take some effort and time, and with the 100 x 50 cages and similar sizes on the market for hamsters already it does make those sizes of rabbit cages less valuable as hamster cages.

Re: What do you think of these cages for hamsters
I just like looking at cages/alternative cages and seeing what's out there. I'm happy with the Alaska and feel that 80x50x40 is very ample for a Syrian. I like the big front opening door, it's hard to get that with cages although I know a few have it. Defo is a good priced cage and if I get any more hammies in the future will probably buy it again. I did like the idea of bin cages a while ago but i couldn't find a suitable bin really and it was tricky enough to do. I did have a go. Today I was at a breeders house seeing all their hammies and as I am hoping to become a judge in the future had a go at judging some cinnamons! exciting
