Post My Ham poops/pees in and below her wheel?

I'm trying to set up a litter-box in my hamster's tank. Most people suggest I find the corner they pee/poop in most and set the litter box there; put some soiled bedding inside, etc.
Well, my hamster was peeing primarily in the front left corner of her tank but after I got her a larger wood wheel she seems to spend a lot of time running in it and poops around its base and the opening. The poops aren't wet or anything. If you think something is wrong though please tell me.
She's in a 20 gallon long tank which I'm planning to change to a bin cage with more room soon, but even so, I doubt she's wanting for space to poop right now.
Should I just go ahead and take a bit of soiled bedding and put it in the litter tray near the wheel? If I move it away from the wheel over the course of several days do you think she'll go in it??
I just wonder because I would much prefer her to be "potty trained" as it would make spot cleaning easier.

What species is she?

I've got Chineseys and I've never found a wet corner so have come to the conclusion that they don't really have one. Their wheels on the other hand tend to get a bit manky as they're terrible for peeing and pooing in them. There's nothing wrong with that providing you get the balance right between stopping it being really stinky to removing their scent so that they pee and poo on it more.

I tried toilet training two of mine once and it got us nowhere but Syrians can be more receptive to the idea. It's worth putting some soiled bedding in a litter tray to see what she makes of it. She might get the idea if you persist with it for a while.

She is a long-haired Syrian so I'm hoping I might get somewhere with the potty training. When I spot clean today I'll give it a go and put the litter box near the wheel. *Fingers crossed*

Hamsters can only be litter trained to pee in the tray. They will still poo around their cage as they have a very fast metabolism they can't really control it. I've litter trained nearly all of my hamsters but they would still poo in places they spend slit of time in such as their wheel and their nest.
Once she pees in her tray she's pretty much trained. I also highly recommend using sand and not potty litter, it's much better for them.
They will roll in it-completely normal.
Also I personally find that makes take longer to train than females but that may just be me.
Good luck in your training
