They usually do great,as long as they get lots of enrichment as any mouse should whether alone or with others

I guess so - maybe the same as hamsters living alone. I think they are quite smelly though aren't they? With regard to lids, you can buy Zilla lids to fit most tank sizes on Amazon.com. Cage toppers would be good for a mouse too as they like to have something to climb I think (eg a branch).

Sounds like one male mouse and your 10 gallon tank with a topper maybe, or a hamster and a different cage/tank.

I think odor would be worse in tanks than barred cages.Something like a Savic Mickey 2XL would be expensive at first, but could have more benefits than a tank especially if odor seems to be a problem. It would make perfect sense for it to become worse in tanks though,as there is much less airflow and ammonia would build up more.

I'll have to figure out the exact odor on my own though as would anyone else It is worth thinking about though,as no cage is entirely perfect and they all have their own drawbacks and benefits.

The Savic Mickey 2XL is a lovely cage - I had it for Charlie. It could be a good investment as it's suitable for any species of hamster or for a mouse. But it's so expensive - about $150 I think on Amazon.com. A better investment than $35 on a tank topper though, but costs a lot more.

I have a tank and experience no odor problems at all He has a very nice wire mesh lid that came with the terrarium I use Carefresh bedding and it actually does have great odor control. You just need to clean out the area where the pet urinates every few days and I wipe the glass with a couple of baby wipes as well.

I personally think that a 10 gallon cage would be a bit small, but like some other people said, bin cages are extremely easy, and very cheap. You can also usually provide more room by stacking them

I wouldn't keep hamsters or mice in a 10 gallon tank. Mice may be small, but they're incredibly active and appreciate space to climb and explore.

Another idea would be using several tanks and cutting a side or sides off each one to connect them all together and make one massive tank. This is mostly useful for hamsters though
