Re: The Alaska Cage
Gumtree has some hamster heaven looking cages near me. Not sure where you are in England, so may not be near you.

Re: The Alaska Cage
Sounds like a good idea. You would need to keep cats out of the room with the hamster in anyway though, as the smell of one near would stress a hamster, and even a duna tank has a barred lid!

Re: The Alaska Cage
If you have cats then an enclosed cage probably is the best option just in case the cat does get into the room where the ham is but as Serendipity says you will need to take care to keep the cat out of the room, just having a predator close by can be highly stressful for hams.

Re: The Alaska Cage
Even if something like a tank or Duna is used, there is still going to be a risk.Cats are extremely intelligent and will find a way into anything, with some cats being capable of opening doors and other things people would assume are impossible.
The only safe way of preventing cats from getting to hamsters is having a safety routine and making it impossible for cats to get into the room with the hamster cage in the first place.Other than that, nothing is ever 100% cat proof.

Re: The Alaska Cage
thanks for your replies but my cat sleeps in my room with me and the hamsters are in a completely different room and when I get up the cats go outside and spend their day outdoors but I do make sure it 100% safe
thanks
xx

Re: The Alaska Cage
Sounds good Having a tank style will be a good belt and braces approach

Re: The Alaska Cage
To be honest as long as proper precautions are taken in this case it really doesn't matter what type of cage is used.
