Natural themed hamster bin cage
Alright. I have one bin cage currently, with a dwarf winter white. I am going to expand it by making another bin cage and putting it beside his current one, and connecting it with a tube. I want to do a natural theme. Any ideas for materials/links?

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
The thing I'm worried about is what will I do for a lid?

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
For a lid it's the same as a normal bin cage. You just cut the ventilation hole and put the mesh on as normal

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
I think two bins linked would be more secure than trying to make one big bin. Given that a lot of hams are better at escaping than Houdini, I personally would want to know I had secure lids.
But anyway, back to your original question which was about natural set ups. I think wood always looks nice and I've had some nice wood hideouts for my cages, the kind with the bark still on amd they look nice am natural. I also have some resin reptile dishes of differing sizes that look good too. I have small ones that I've used below water dishes and a larger one that I used to use sometimes for my robo as sand bath. I've had some corner steps and a bridge in that material too. When I've gone for a more natural look I've also used Carefresh naturals as a substrate as its a cardboard brown colour so looks a bit more outdoorsy. I think the wooden hideouts I've had have been mostly from Trixie and the resin dishes and steps/bridges were from Komodo (I think) but a lot of companies make similar. Just be careful that they don't have anything stuck on (like fake greenery) that a ha could chew. I'm sure you'll also get some great ideas from the show us your cages thread too.

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
I really like the resin reptile things too & have used some, one thing to think about is that they can be quite heavy though so you have to be a bit careful where you put them in the cage also some, usually cheaper ones, can have sharp edges so have a good check before using anything like that.

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
What about for a green "grass" type of thing?

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
You could try painting wood with soy paint.I wouldn't risk something like colored paper though,as you never know just what is used to dye those and it could be something bad like artificial colors or something that is safe for humans but toxic to hamsters!

Re: Natural themed hamster bin cage
Most grass type things, if you mean an actual live plant aren't really a good option, I would just stick to using some natural looking substrate.
