Not really,because spot cleans eventually lead to partial cleans at some point.It isn't like just leaving a cage without any cleaning at all for 6 months,and actually this is a very common practice in Germany with large cages because it also is less stressful on the hamsters.

A lot of people seem confused by the idea of not doing full cleans so often,but it is a lot easier and less unsanitary than it sounds!

Fully cleaning the cage every month with spot cleaning is as hygienic as you get I suppose... ErinsAnimals recommended cleaning the detolf every month too, also Germany have much larger cages than we do usually.

Between the six months everything would get too dirty too, I suppose the amount of spot cleaning you do to clean the hamster cage every 6 months works and the amount of cleaning we do each month works too I think this is probably one of those debates that is down to personal preference and the hamster too
