Default Minimum cage requirements for Hamsters

After seeing the size of the starter kits that they are selling with a "free " hamster in a pet shop yesterday, I was wondering what the minimum requirements are for a hamster cage? I've read it somewhere but can't remember where? I know the RSPCA have minimum size requirements for rabbits cages before a rabbit is rehomed and i'm sure the same can be said for a hamster cage?

Can anyone help before i send them a letter expressing my concerns!

OMG that sound so silly: buy a cage and get a hamster for free...

It isn't a law, it is a recommendation.

I agree, but as it isn't a requirement just a recommendation cornishrobos can only say that she doesn't think the cages are suitable, rather than they're actually against the welfare act or anything.

Thanks for that! I know it's not law, so won't be quoting anything like that but just wanted some guidance as to what is suitable. Those starter cages are definately not!!
