Default cage accessories: is this safe?

hi all

I really have a weak spot for natural looking cage accessories
Things that looks like stone etc
But are these safe?
I am of course thinking of the false plants like on these pictures

Silk plants and such are not safe.If they were chewed they could never be digested. However, some reptile resins are safe but make sure there are no sharp pieces,no fake plants on them including moss like the one you showed,no openings to cause injury, etc.

Wood pieces are good, for example grape driftwood or cork.Do not use mopani wood though as it is a common driftwood but it is not a safe one.

An option for plants would be using oat or millet sprays for decoration but they must be removed if they're eaten in large amounts.Large river rocks look great as well, but they must be large enough to not be pouchable!

You might be able to find some other rocks in the aquarium section but they cannot have sharp edges just like resin pieces shouldn't,and if they have small holes as well they can cause toe injuries so you have to be extremely careful.

You're definitely lucky to have a robo! There are tons of wooden items out there which are very fun for robos, and it should be extremely easy to find resin things too

Great deals on cages and accessories for small animals at zooplus: Willow Tunnel

Cabins & Houses: great selection at zooplus: Playhouse and Cabin Leif

Cabins & Houses: great selection at zooplus: Two Storey Cabin for Small Pets

You can probably find lots of other toys from Amazon and other pet websites, but it is definitely a good starting point for some different ideas!

Yeah it's for sure easier to find things for him than for a syrian for example

I suggest you also look on Etsy.com, as I have found people that will make items to fit your needs. For example, I loved this hay box a man makes for rabbits. It has circular openings & the top opens. Anyway I thought if it were smaller, it would be perfect hideout for my Patro'n. He agreed to make me a hamster sized box. There are tons of people who make wooden rat/hamster/rabbit toys on there.

Cork items are good as well - like the cork tunnels - they have a natural texture, can be climbed over or run through. I would put anything cork in the freezer for a week first though to make sure there is nothing microscopic living in it. They can also be a way of separating a deeper substrate area from a lower substrate area. (Check out the photos on the zooplus page)

Tunnels & Dens: bargain prices at zooplus: Trixie Cork Tunnel

I wouldn't put any plants in either - either real or false, because of chew risks and moulds from damp soil. Millet sprays can look like long grasses though and look good. I did try some millet sprays but Charlie ignored them lol!

This pic from pinterest looks nice with millet (see below)

I had one of these sandblasted vine branches from rodipet in Charlie's previous cage as well. It gave a bit of shelter to one corner and could be climbed up and hidden under. The Rodipet ones are a good size for a hamster cage (ie not too big!) I put that in the freezer for a few days to a week as well to make sure nothing was living in it!

A lot of the resin bridges and ornaments are made for fish tanks or reptiles so a lot of them have fake plants on, but if you like the look of that kind of thing there are a couple of similar ceramic things for hamsters - not sure if some would be big enough for a syrian - I think they would fit but only just!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Living-Worl...ds=hamster+gym

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Living-Worl...MTEQ5J6BNJ6JB7

I always tend to think of the safety aspect first, so anything hard like ceramic could do to be under a shelf really, in case the hammy climbs to the top and falls - best if they can only land on something soft, like substrate.

I think I am getting old how could I not have remembered millets Don't have it for Gill, because he just ignore them too The branches looks like she could have a lot of fun on ^^ But as for Gill, I don't think so because he moves so fast, I would constantly worry that he would hurt himself.

Regarding the ceramic items from Living World I can tell you that they for sure are to small for a syrian, Penguin has the small house for Kiki, and they are quite small. But they are so cute I just love them.

And this is exactly why I ask for your experience and opinions, I would really hate if, something happened, just because there was something I didn't think about.

However at the moment it looks like I'm not thinking at all hahahaha.

Yeah they are so cute right ^^
I am almost chocked how hard it is to find stuff for syrians, compared to how easy it is to find stuff for dwarf's or robo's

Thanks all for the opinions and tips xD
