Default 1cm bar spacing for Robos?

I'm aware that Daisy and Lily, my 10-week-old Roborovski dwarfs, need a cage upgrade as they have started to pace around and monkey-bar.

A hamster heaven cage has popped up in my area for a very good price and I am very willing to get it but the 1cm bar spacing is my only problem. Can young Robos have 1cm bar spacing or should I wait until they're older?

1 cm is less than half of an inch, but that still might be a bit big for younger robos especially very small ones. You could just mesh the cage over instead of waiting though!

I have heard on the forum that people whom have had a cage with 1 cm bar spacings have had robos escape through the bars. It's normally reccomended that robos have cages with bar spacings of 7mm to 8mm. Hope this helps

My big chunky 9 month old male Robo is absolutely fine in a cage with 1cm bar spacing... but I would not put my 6 month old female in a cage with 1cm bar spacing! Especially with 10 week old girls, I would not want to risk it, unless you already have a cage with 1cm bar spacing you can put them in, in a safe place, to see if they can escape.

Do your Robos have wheels that they can move? (I know there's been an issue with the 6.5" silent spinners not spinning freely recently!) Reason I ask is because the only time I have ever had a Robo monkey bar (and bar chew!) is when I was attempting an introduction and they didn't have wheels. As soon as the wheels went back in, they stopped touching the bars.

They've only monkey barred once so maybe that was a one-off

Yes they both have working, unbranded 5.5" wheels

Hey!
Would the Alaska be big enough for both of them? Just thinking that is on Zooplus for £32.99 and has bar spacing of 0.9cm (so I think that is 9mm?) Or, for a little more there is the Barney which is £49.99 and has 7mm bar spacing. You said on your other post that you had £40 saved and thought your mom might be happier if you paid most of it, so if that was the case then you could get either of them Though I guess it depends how much space you have - the Barney is 100cm and the Alaska is just over 80cm Those prices include delivery too from Zooplus!

Being cautious I probably wouldn't want to risk 1cm bar spacing. Not just for escapes but the idea of them getting stuck! Unless as Kissa has, it is a large-ish chunky robo. It's a bit frustrating when you find a good second hand cage though. Unless you gave the HH to Willow and put the Robos in the maxi duna? But Willow may be upset about that - just remembered she was a bar chewer as well! So maybe not. I think the Ferplast Kios is supposed to be a good cage for Robos as well. It only has a small top opening door but the bars aren't too big to lift off. Or the standard Duna Multy is only about £33.

Hopefully

The duna multy that Serendipity mentioned is a good sized cage for a couple of Robos, to be honest I wouldn't put a pair in something as large as a maxi duna multy, sometimes too much space with pairs of hammies can cause them to get territorial and fight.

Lol I think Willow would be a bit annoyed at that - she was a bar chewer even in her 90x40cm cage and still tries to chew the top bars of her cage now! That's quite a bit of space to lose too

I was also considering the Elmo XXL cage - if I contributed the £40 to that it would only be about £10-£15 for my mum to pay, including delivery from Germany Didn't think about territorial fights though

The Duna Multy is most likely my best option - good priced, OK access & large enough but not too big for territorial issues

I would have loved the Elmo XXL though

I would trust the alaska for robos or small dwarfs as the bars have a slightly bigger gap at the corners in my opinion
