Is this chew toy safe?
Just bought a Tug 'n' Gnaw chew from P@H today and although it says suitable for hamsters on the label I wanted to check on here first. It's a thick peice of rope with wood blocks on either end.

Re: Is this chew toy safe?
No,it isn't safe,as it is most likely cotton rope which can cause intestinal problems and even death.

Re: Is this chew toy safe?
I think you'd need to watch your hammies carefully with this in case they broke through the strands and then ate the fibres or pouched them just in case they did cause a problem. I'd imagine that most hammies would not actually bother too much with this sort of toy but you never really know what they may get up to. Try letting her have it supervised and see what she does. If she starts to chew it to bits then I'd not use it.

Re: Is this chew toy safe?
Okay thank you both. If I see she's chewing the rope then I'll remove it

Re: Is this chew toy safe?
I wouldn't use anything with rope, just in case There are toys that have sisal rope or string, which is safe to chew, but not cotton rope.
