Default Slate?

Was in the supermarket today. Couldn't find any ceramic tiles big enough for Sweep but there were some placemats made of slate. However I'm not even sure what this is let alone if I could use it?! It was cold to touch anyway but if it's suitable I'll go put a bit later and get it as it is currently 28 degrees and tomorrow is expected to be 31!

I wouldn't use slate, if it gets chipped or broken it can be really sharp.

You don't need to buy anything fancy - just get a couple of plates from the cupboard or a charity shop and alternate them in the fridge! Slate can get a bit sharp as cypher says

If the slate is formed into like a bowl with molded edges it would make a lovely cool perch. I know here in the states they make a slate, or fake marble bowl for reptiles which if turned upside down makes a wonderful cool spot for the hamsters, a bit pricey though. I use clay pots trays like you place under flower pots. They hold the cold rather long and the hamsters love just laying in them when it is really hot. The mice weren't thrilled with them at all.

Jessie has a giant cup that my sister bought from Sports Direct, she tends to use it for playtime but something like that would be ideal for a Syrian Hamster's cage.

I think it might be easiest to find a Syrian sized pot.Mugs and such are a bit harder to find in my experience, plus they do cost more than a pot unless you get one from a thrift store.I find that clay/terracotta pots are very cheap even in Syrian sizes, while it's very difficult to find a large enough mug for a Syrian.

Tesco have terracotta plant pots. They might be big enough. £1.20 each (I think). Two of those so you can keep one in the fridge and swap them.
