Default Fluffy Bedding

So my parents dragged me to B&M with them therefore I decided to take a look at the pet aisle.
I soon discovered a complete shelf full of multicoloured fluffy bedding. And I'm no expert but isn't it incredibly dangerous?
Maybe this one by glenwood essentials is different?

Anyway am I over reacting or should I stage a peaceful protest? 😛

You should raise your concerns with the Customer Services deparrtment of the store. You can normally contact them by email via their website. If you link them to appropriate valid links showing the dangers and ask them for a response they should get back to you.
We don't allow naming and shaming on the forum but feel free to post their response should you get one. The store managers are unlikely to have much say or expertise on the stock they sell so would go straight to HQ customer services.

Fluffy bedding is indeed extremely dangerous as it can cause strangulations and intestinal blockages, which have very low survival rates I'd email customer service and maybe lightly suggest they stop selling it

This has been done before with B&M regarding fluffy bedding and nothing was done. The sad thing is, it's very popular. I was in my local B&M store few weeks back and checked out the pet section and let out a sigh of relief when I noticed there was none on display only for a member of staff to tell me they were sold out and waiting for it to come back in. I did mention about the dangers to hamsters but it fell on deaf ears. I can't help thinking if it was a cat or dog, the outcome would be so different.

I think that would make me want to stand outside with a large placard lol! Saying DANGER! Fluffy bedding in here - kills hamsters. (I wouldn't suggest this by the way - you might get arrested). But it makes you feel like doing something like that.

If that is the case, you could try "going to the top" ie writing a letter to the Chairman or Managing Director of the group of shops, not just the one you've been in. A formal letter, concise, official well worded so it sounds sensible but makes the point strongly (they tend to ignore angry ranty letters). And at the end ask for an assurance that the matter will be taken seriously and the product removed.

You could then suggest two or three alternative safe products they could stock.

eg

Carefresh Hide 'n Seek nestables

https://www.viovet.co.uk/CareFRESH_H...zkgaAnUF8P8HAQ

Animal Dreams shredded paper bedding (which is what our pet shop sells)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Animal-Drea...+paper+bedding

Finacard softnest paper

Mini Packs [Multipack] - £0.00 : Finacard, Quality Animal Bedding

To give them alternative things they could stock.

And you could also add this link and say if they look at point 4 the RSPCA says don't give fluffy bedding as it is dangerous.

A suitable environment for hamsters - RSPCA

You can usually find the name of the Chairman or Managing director or CEO of a company by googling CEO of (whatever company) or Chairman of whatever company, until a name comes up and usually a head office address.

If not you can ring the head office and ask for the name.

Then address the letter to them and on the envelope put "For the Personal Attention of" and then the name and adress underneath.

So you could have something like:

Dear Mr Bloggs (or Dear Sir Bloggs or whatever)

I am writing to you personally in the hope that you can deal with an important matter relating to animal welfare.

I am disappointed to find this product (name it in brackets) in your stores in large quantities, prominently placed. This product is well known to be highly dangerous to small animals such as hamsters, and this is backed up by the RSPCA - please see point 4 on the link below.

(Add RSPCA link here and copy and paste point 4 into the letter as you can't click on a link on a paper letter).

I am requesting, in the interests of safety and animal welfare, that you cease stocking this product and I have listed safe alternative nesting products below.

Animal Dreams shredded paper bedding
Carefresh Hide n Seek nestables
Finacard Safenest paper flakes.

I would be very grateful if you could acknowledge your receipt of this letter, and give assurances that this matter will now be dealt with.

Yours sincerely,

Your name.
