Default Best bedding in the U.S?

Hello everyone. I would like to know what you think is the absolute best bedding for dwarf hamsters that is sold in the U.S. I've used Oxbow for a while and I wanted to try care fresh because of their new formula and to me it smells. I may go back to Oxbow but was wondering if anyone has found any better options.

Not too sure on the quality difference between Oxbow Pure Comfort and Kaytee Clean and Cozy, but I do know that Carefresh can be dusty which is a big problem.Kaytee is the least dusty US bedding and it also can be the cheapest option, plus it is more widely available than Oxbow Pure Comfort.

I really like Kaytee Clean & Cozy. I've tried everything under the sun in my years of owning hamsters (Carefesh, All Living Things, Ecobedding, Oxbow, Boxo, Green Dreams...)! I used to really like Boxo...it was SO soft, but they changed the formula and now it contains really large pieces of almost cardboard like paper. So, I've gone back to Kaytee. I do like the Oxbow, but it tends to be a bit more expensive...but less dusty than Kaytee! Hope this helps.

I've tried the Oxbow (in the Uk) and think it's very good. It's similar to the Fitch paper bedding we have in the Uk. I thought it had a bit of dust, but not too bad and less than Carefresh. I think Kaytee Clean and Cozy is very popular too. And Boxo, mentioned above, seems popular and probably works out a lot cheaper than the other two as I think it's sold in bulk.

Well you can't go wrong with paper bedding I am not sure but I believe Kaytee Clean n Cozy is supposed to be pretty dust free. Although that is cellulose bedding as opposed to paper, so has probably been through more chemical processes (although you would hope they are well rinsed!). Personally I would stick with paper, but either would be safe. I really liked the Oxbow paper bedding.

Pretty much all the paper substrates in the US are cellulose based, which shouldn't be an issue unless massive amounts are consumed which honestly any substrate shouldn't be consumed in large amounts regardless.

It is honestly far less risky to use a paper based unscented substrate than risking aspen, which is the only "safe" natural substrate in the US.Even though it is natural,it is not as risk free as a paper substrate and honestly it can trigger allergic reactions and also cause injuries due to the roughness of wood in general. It's best to just stick with a paper substrate like Kaytee Clean and Cozy,Carefresh,or the Oxbow bedding but of those I think Kaytee would be best.

Alright so looks like i'll be going Kaytee clean and cozy. I'll start switching out next month. My little one just barely made her new bed. So don't want to ruin it all over again.

For my dwarf hamsters, I layer, shredded Aspen, Boxo, and clean & cozy. I layer due to helps hold tunnels, and burrows.

How much bedding is the recommended amount for a 40 gallon breeding tank? Liters wise how much do you think would be perfect for my little one?
