Default Silent Spinners in Jollyes

The other day I was in Jollyes picking up some treats for Willow and I saw that they had Silent Spinner wheels on sale. The regular size was £14.99 and the large was £20-something!

Knowing that the new axle has decreased the popularity of the wheels, I wasn't expecting them to run smoothly or silently. Unfortunately this was the case for the large spinner, however, the regular turned several times after a push and was completely silent. I checked on the back and, lo and behold, it had the old, working axle!

The 12" unfortunately doesn't work as well as the 6.5" so isn't a good choice.. However, the 6.5" could be used for robos and smaller Russian hams.

I'm not saying that this will be the case for all Jollyes stores but, at least in my branch, I seem to have found some working medium ones.

I have a medium silent spinner that isn't very old and it works really well so I'm guessing it has the old axle. How does the old axle differ to the new one? That's a shame they changed it... I love silent spinners, I've found them to be very quiet indeed

The old axle just looks like an axle you'd find in a normal wheel whereas the new one has a more unique shape.

I don't see why they did change it really, nobody had any problems with the wheel beforehand. The ones with the new axle are claimed to be rattle and hard for the hamster to push.
