That looks nice. I would have liked smaller bar spacing. They still have a lot of cages that are too small.

Or just to make it easier - here they all are next to each other. It's not to scale completely but bear in mind all are 100cm wide (give or take a cm or 2) - so it's a comparison to see the difference in proportion and bar height. If the bar height isn't too height - fall risks aren't an issue with the base full of substrate.

So the Mamble and Karat are 60cm tall, the Borneo is 56cm tall, the Barney is 46cm tall, the Alexander is 50cm tall (might be nearer 48cm as it includes the handles I think), the Plaza is 50cm tall. But if the base on the Plaza is deeper than the Barney and Alexander then the bar height isn't too tall really. Anyway - has a nice big front door!

It's one thing people have been asking for for a long time - a 100cm cage with a large front opening door, like the Hamster Heaven has, rather than the awkward two small doors on the front that most cages have. They've put basic contents in it, but you could make it how you want really.

I just noticed there's no issue with gaps round the edges being bigger either as it has those edge pieces.

The edge pieces do make it safer! No risk of injury due to a gap, which is a huge concern I have when I look at barred cages whether it be on the roof of the cage or the sides.

Good points about how to adapt it Amityville The main reason I posted this was as an update to show what it looked like, as it's a cage that has been in the offing for some time. It seems like a very long time! It's over a year since I wrote asking them to make a 100cm cage with a big front opening door.

The extra height has it's pros and cons for Syrians - it means it's easier to fit a 12" wheel in without losing substrate depth and floorspace (the wheel can be on a level or fixed to the bars and clear the substrate, as with the barney). I don't think it's too tall with one shelf and enough substrate. Whereas the Mamble and Borneo need full levels really.

Up until now, the Borneo was the only 100cm cage with a large front opening door and it's only for sale in Germany - although they do ship to the Uk. Savic usually have good build quality as well.

I know this cage isn't Savic as its a Ferplast, but if you compare the base of this one to the Plaza you might see a difference pr similar in depth. I find the cage linked has a very deep base for substrate so I put in a lot, as Yummy loves to mound it up all over her house so she's living in a mound of woodchips. To me the Plaza cage's base is not as deep as it can be, but it does seem to be deep enough to prevent substrate being on the floor.

Thanks Blueray - yes that's interesting as it's almost 40cm high but the bars don't look like the cage is that high - so yes it must have a deep base

I reckon with the Plaza that the bar top is about 32cm (from counting the bars) and the base about 18cm tall (slightly taller than the Alexander base). So in terms of internal height it's probably about 2cm taller than the Barney cage - but maybe the same height or less than the Barney cage if the base is filled well with substrate.

I think it looks quite nice too. It's a bit different from the Hamster Heaven style - more like the Zeno rat cages, but the access would be good. Having had the Savic Mickey 2XL with a flat roof and big front door I found that much easier than having a big top door which restricts where you can hang sputniks, hammocks and tubes etc. You could do a lot with the roof I reckon, with no top door. Ooh I wish it was available now - I want to tinker!

lol! me too
I find I never use the top doors after the initial set up, it's just too restricting otherwise, I do wish more manufacturers would see the sense of big front doors!
