Default What to fill the holes with for a Duna maxi?

So Shirley is now in her Duna maxi (I will post photos soon!) and now that she has no bars to chew she has taken to chewing the water bottle. I've put a water bowl in there instead. I've ordered a screw in bird perch thing for one of the holes but what does everyone else use? I tried a screw in level but the screw/nail wasn't long enough! I'm hoping the bird perch one will be! Any suggestions are very welcome

Wood chew that is designed to fix to cage bars. They have a screw that could go through the hole and a washer or two washers and a wing nut to hold it tight.

Oh dear - that is annoying if that's the shelf I linked!

This is what I was trying to find before - the carrot chews that screw in - do you think that screw/bolt looks long enough?

Small Carrot Gnawers 2 Pack | Pets At Home

Or you could just stick a nut and bolt in there

Looking forward to seeing Shirley's new abode all set up! I think it's common for them to chew at the bottle hole - just because it's there. Although if it's the actual bottle she is chewing at then she really does sound like a chewy hamster! I reckon she'll need lots of chews and things to rip up in her cage!

I bought some of those carrot chews and they fit....just!! I also got a slightly fatter blue chew thing which also fits so I'm happy. Shirley has tried chewing the hole but gives up and chews the chew instead so fingers crossed we're on the up!

Yeah she was chewing the actual bottle, properly going for it! The chewable things she has in her cage are; carrot and hay house, hay tube, carrot log roll, 2 seed chew things, wooden garland, willow ball, 2 other wooden ball things, loofah ring, wood pulp tunnel and wooden bendy sticks. As well as the 2 chews I've now screwed into the holes. So she has plenty to choose from!

Lol! And she still chooses to chew her water bottle! You could try her with an Antos crocodile or toothbrush - I bet she'd murder that lol! Even Charlie chews those and he doesn't normally chew anything very much.

It may be wise to have a spare chew ready to replace the one covering the hole once she has chewed it enough or she may get to the hole.

Great that Shirley is in the Maxi Duna, can't wait to see photos

I prefer to block the holes off with a bolt and washers as I find that most chews (though the ones that Serendipidity linked seem to work lol ) don't have long enough screws and the plastic is thicker than you think!

She may calm down after a while, she may be a bit overwhelmed at being placed in this new style of cage and is just chewing anything she can on the sides, Willow did this at first but she's calmed down now - or Shirley's just a cheeky ham

Serendipity I forgot to mention her 2 toothbrush chews she has in her board. Also her rodipet house arrived yesterday, she loves it

CMB I've got a bird perch screw in thing arriving and a spare screw in carrot chew so I should be okay for spares! Great point though!

FH The problem with bolts and washers is she would chew the metal, so I need something safe for her to actually chew! I have had the same issues with screw length though. The ones I bought today only just fit. The wooden levels I have don't and I think the lava ledges would have the same problem too. I thought she would calm down in her Alaska and she never did. She seems happier now that all her inappropriate chewing opportunities have been addressed though. She was having a nice mooch around her cage investigating everything this evening and had a run in her wheel a few times, which I hadn't really seen her do much as she had been so intent on chewing bars/random holes!

Ooh exciting! I bet she loves it. That could change everything - she might cosy up in there - although not likely now it's warmer weather and they tend to sleep a bit less I find in lighter nights and warmer weather. I bet she will enjoy arranging her house Whenever Charlie has a new house he makes a huge racket inside it - banging and scratching - it sounds like he is doing diy in there. Or maybe he's just having a housewarming party.

Great that you have some of the toothbrushes, I bet Shirley will love them

Lol Serendipidity, that's exactly what Willow does! I gave her a new tunnel yesterday and she raced in and out of it loads of times, chewed it and weed on it!
