Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
oddly enough after seeing the suggestions about the climbing frame and the hanging ladder I watched her last night (rather then the t.v.) she never bothered with the hanging ladder but she did go up the frame a couple of times but she ignored it for the rest of the night so I will be removing both.
as for the saucer I got that when she was still small she never really used it anyway. she just jumps on it and off again not really fussed about it. so another thing that will have to go.
as I have never had a tank style home before this is going to take some tweaking and trying out new things before I get it right for her.
but she really loves the deep substrate!
I always welcome and thank you all for your advice

Wow that's amazing. I love how you've got rid of the fall risks with all those cork logs! And OOH! You have one of those Rodipet wave sandbaths - I was just looking at those the other day and wondering what you could do with them - they look great.

Thanks! & yep, it's the smaller option of the two wavebaths that rodipet sell - my syrian, Keiko, has two of larger kind (one for sand and one for peat moss), if you go back a few pages in this thread to where I posted his set up if you want a size reference if you're interested. I love them - I think the only con I have is that the sides are super shallow, so sometimes soil gets kicked all over the place but it doesn't happen too often. Siggi loves the thing!

Is he tame or do you let him do his own thing in that awesome cage?

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
That does look really nice!
I'm the opposite & find I actually struggle more with tank style cages or bins than barred cages but I do find a 100cm cage a lot easier than smaller cages to set up really well.
Love all the natural materials & millet/flax sprays etc, do they last long with yours? Mine destroy the flax in seconds but millet & canary seed last that little bit longer!
I got one of the Rodipet sandbaths & then found I couldn't really fit it in lol! I wasn't as impressed as I though I would be though, agree the sides are too low & the bit under the hideout is a bit of a pain to get into if you want to clean it out still a nice addition for little hams who love to dig all the same.

He's super tame He loves people, and loves attention - definitely does not fit in with the stereotypical shy Chinese hahaha
______
@cypher Thanks! & haha I struggle with bar cages and syrian cages. I find tanks & dwarf set ups sooo much easier to do! The smallerst set up I have is this one - it's my own personal minimum that I go by (100 x 50), and even then I'd love to give him more space, but I they take over my room as it is!
But my hamsters - bar my winter white, Moscow, who is an absolutel menace with flax which is why she doesn't have as much as the others haha - are all really well with not over consuming on the plants, which is why I offer them so many.
& yeah, the sand baths are probably worth less than what they charge, but I don't regret buying them - the hamkiddos love them, and they're a great way to provide them with different substrates! I haven't had any issues with cleaning them at all - but all my hamsters are litter trained anyway (thank god!) so that probably has something to do with it!

Woweeee! What a fabulous cage!! I love the natural themed cages. All the foliage is really cool. I don't know how you do that, it must have taken for ages! And even to think about how to place things and what to buy. I wouldn't know where to start! I'm sure your little hammy loves it!!
