Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Hi everyone - the moderation team have reviewed the posts on this thread and the upset caused by some.
Please can we note that this thread is NOT for critical review. It is meant to show your cages. A good idea if you are unsure about something or want people to help with solutions is to post a new thread on the Housing board asking about your cage.
Please remember that everyone has their own views and that they may not always be able to express what they mean in words for any number of reasons so we should try and read over what we say and try and be understanding and read around posts to interpret them correctly.
When you make a thread you may get answers you don't like but that is all part of a forum experience I guess
If you feel a post is offensive or breaks our rules then please report this to the team by clicking on that red triangle at the bottom and we will deal with it as soon as possible.
Thank you everyone.

Woah, SabreRose, that's a really nice set-up. I especially liked the playground on the right shelf (not the Puzzle Playground, the wooden one). Where did you get it?

Aw thank you. I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Hope my girl is enjoying it.
I got it on amazons. Here's the link
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...derland+bridge
Bit pricey but cute. The roof only sits on top though, not connected or clipped in so I didn't think it was very safe.

Another thing to add to my Amazon wish-list!

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
That size wouldn't be suitable for any species In terms of a size that would actually be suitable,it's going to depend at least somewhat on what species you have.
Luckily in the US there are some decent options.Premade cages just aren't worth going with though,as there are a select few available which are somewhat decent for a decent range of dwarf hamsters(not Russians on the larger side though,as they're around 80 cm x 50 cm but 100 cm x 50 cm would be better)but they cost a ridiculous amount of money and are online exclusive.
Bin cages and bin cage systems(using multiple directly connected bins, not connected via tubes but instead having parts of their sides cut out and being zip tied together leaving a continuous floorspace if done properly)are one of the best options. They're cheap, simple, and don't require a ton of DIY skill. The only "tools" it really requires are a wood burning knife(around $13 at Walmart I believe)and wire cutters(generally under $10).For around $19 or so,you can get two bins for a multiple bin setup(the floorspace between a Sterilite 105 qt and 64 qt Walmart exclusive bins is superior to that of a 100 cm x 50 cm cage). With the bins you'd only need zip ties(less than $4)and a roll of suitably spaced hardware cloth/wire mesh which like the tools shouldn't be considered part of the individual bin setup cost as it doesn't just last to make a single setup(around $16 at Home Depot).

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Adding on to Amity, IRIS Christmas Tree bins cost around $12 at Walmart. Though they are only available seasonally, they make great bin cages, giving about 1000 sq. inches. You can also use IKEA shelving units (the shelves removed, a lid made and attached) or an IKEA detolf (the shelves removed, a lid made and attached).

Just finished Lady Glitter Sparkles cage and I am quite pleased with it.
Although I have noticed a small problem..... when her pouches are full she can't fit in the tubes!!!
