This is Beau's current set-up, in her Barney cage! I'm looking for more things to put in to make it a bit more exciting, so let me know if there's anything you recommend!!

The cage set up is lovely! She has loads of interesting things in there. LOL! She looks like she's trying to pouch that ice cream cone My only slight observation would be maybe something hanging from the roof under the middle door in case she monkey barred across the roof and fell - the bendy bridge fence and rainbow bridge could be hard to land on if she fell from the top. A grass hammock or something? It's difficult with the top door not wanting to block off access, but if it was attached under the door itself it would lift out when you open the door (not if she was in the hammock obviously!)

Thank you!! She doesn't use her wheel very often so I'm trying to give her plenty to do to use up some energy!
That's what I thought too!! :P She spent a good while manoeuvring it into her bed, she likes to keep her favourite treats in her nest, close by.
Ah, that's a great idea. We did have a grass hammock for her before but she chewed through the string attaching it to the cage (she's a big chew-er) so it wasn't safe to use anymore. I'll have to look for another one! Perhaps with sturdier ties.

Aah if she's a chewer that is something to be considered then. I have a large rat tube tied to the top of the cage, and a sputnik. That might be an idea rather than a hammock. The rat tube is tied either side of the top door so it doesn't stop it opening and leaves enough room to still use the door, but it's over the top of any hard things underneath. It's the same cage as yours, if this gives any ideas. My cage looks a bit empty at the moment as Charlie's things are all at ground level now he's older



It's the Savic Rat tube - it has tabs that fit through the bars and holes in for slotting string through as well (I used sisal string). The tabs aren't enough to hold it up there, so it's resting on a shelf at one end and both ends are tied up with the sisal string as well (the string is just beyond the door opening at either corner). It leads into his Sputnik which is next to the shelf - so it makes a kind of roof run - from the shelf, into the sputnik, through the tube and onto something at the other end of the tube (a little ledge near the house roof maybe).

I spent ages fiddling about with it ha ha. But it works quite well and it's over the top of his hard ceramic thing on the floor.

If you went for that idea though you might need to change the shape/position of the fence.

You can see the string better on this photo - it goes either side of the door. If the substrate is deep as well, and things on the floor are then higher up, it helps with fall risks but it looks like the right hand end is quite deep in your cage anyway.



I don't think she'd be able to get at the string like that - it's above the tube and the sputnik It might be an easier option than a hammock - I haven't found an ideal solution to hanging hammocks yet. Pear clips they can get their heads stuck in, paperclips they can get their feet caught in and string can be chewed!

The right side bedding is quite deep but unfortunately I ran out of carefresh so the left isn't as deep as I'd like. Luckily she's not much of a climber, though she does occasionally leap of the edge of her platform!! I'd definitely like something up there just to be safe, I'll figure something out!

This thread makes me jealous. You guys in Europe have way better cage and furniture options than I do here in Canada! My dwarfs both live in tanks.

Koosh's is a 40 gallon long. I used to change it up regularly, but it seemed to disorient him, and I realized awhile ago that Koosh is functionally blind. So it's been like this for awhile and he gets around without a problem.



Both of them have "window nests" level with the floor of their tank so I can creep on them. Koosh likes to sleep all over his tank, but the window nest is his favourite. He also likes to push his bedding off the top of it and sleep on it.




They both have custom furniture from Twilight Chinchillas in Washington state. I had to get creative if I wanted nice furniture for them! Koosh is normally scared of new things, but he took to his activity centre right away. His is sort of "evening sky" themed (with fireflies), because he came first. It has a little ladder swing underneath as well.




Tinker's tank is a 29 gallon. It's well over the recommended 360 sq. inch minimum, but I've been feeling guilty about its size because he's so active. So I've been looking around for a used 40 for him. He needs it!




Tinker's custom house is less elaborate and it's "night sky" themed. It has a little Death Star because my friend swears that Tinker has the Star Wars Rebels' logo on his head. That may be, but I know exactly what side of the Force Tinker would be on... So, Death Star!




And I have lots of accessories like mini igloos and the coconut house with ladder and assorted little houses, but like I said, I keep Koosh's the same these days, and I can only fit a few houses in Tinker's tank at a time. I'll upgrade him soon!

I don't think you have reason to be jealous at all! You have some great things in there for your hams, actually I'm quite envious of the Twilight Chinchillas furniture!
The window nests are really cute
I don't change my hams set ups unless I really have to for some reason, most hams seem to like things to stay pretty much the same once you find something that works for both them & you.
You still have a fair bit of open space so could maybe add in the odd cardboard tube, box or egg carton for them to hide & hunt in but overall it looks really good.

They are lovely tank set ups and the Twilight Chinchilla items are fantastic. In the Uk we get envious of the affordable tanks in the US and Canada! They are massively expensive here. We have the Germans and Belgians to thank for our good cages mostly lol! (Skyline and Savic).

I agree with Cypher about not changing things round. Our hamster gets freaked if things move an inch. It's true they can get in a rut, but I find adding something new can help with that, without changing the basic layout round - it must be disorientating for them changing things round. They scent mark in the cage to find their way around usually as their eyesight is so bad. If I add something new he inspects it and then either gives his approval - or doesn't! I get stampy feet and looks if he doesn't like it
