Re: Rodipet cages!
Aah yes - I see what you mean. So just top vents. Once they have things inside it, it doesn't look that huge. But they have made something that meets German minimum recommended welfare standards with the internal measurements and ability to have 20cm substrate.
Shame they haven't got a 120cm one as well though.
It's bigger than a 90 x 45 exo terra though, so must be bigger than it looks on the photos.

Re: Rodipet cages!
The photos are a bit weird, they look like cardboard lol! I was surprised watching the video at how much bigger it seemed than I imagined looking at the photos.
At least it's 100x50 on the inside not just the outside so that is a good size, just as well I don't need any cages or I might be tempted!
As they're so new they might extend the range, who knows....

I know I was thinking that But nope - I don't need a cage right now. Shame they weren't around a year ago.

Re: Rodipet cages!
Ooooo glad i only have nine cages for my six hamstes so clearly need a couple more ...
They do look interesting but I am very much in love with the borneo xl. Arun seems ok with it too!

Re: Rodipet cages!
When I first saw the introduction video on Rodipet's YouTube channel I was so excited because... it's Rodipet! This company has created so many great hamster products, so my expectations were really high!
I really think the "LaOla" is a decent cage: It comes in the recommended size (which is 5000cm² ground space or 100cm length x 50cm width), it is eco-friendly and seems easy to set up.
But I wish they would sell the cage in more than just one size - maybe 90cm x 60cm (5400cm²) or 120 cm x 50cm (6000cm²)! And I don't understand why they would offer two different materials, since both materials seem to be perfectly safe for rodents they could have just decided on one! Personally, I would have preferred them offering a choice of colors or designs instead.
The price for the MDF cage (149,-€) is alright when you consider that aquariums/terrariums of the same size often cost 120,-€ or more here in Germany. But 249,-€ for a wooden cage?! Serendipity is right, there are bigger cages available for that price... :/

Re: Rodipet cages!
Nice looking and since you can break it down it can be moved more easily than any tank that size. That peep hole is just a design feature I gather from the translation. The top is solid-ish so the occupant would feel more secure than in a clearer top? Still I think a downside is the only way to open it is to lift the entire top. That makes hanging things impractical at best and might frighten the occupant. A half door or split doors design might be better. If the sales are successful maybe more colours and designs will be added.

Re: Rodipet cages!
I agree on all that Piebald - on the other hand it's less open than a glass tank with a lift that fully lifts off. It's maybe a trial to see how well each model sells. I suspect the cheaper one will sell well and the expensive one won't. But by offering two the same size in different materials it could restrict sales of the cheaper one if people think it is somehow a "lesser" material. Two different sizes in the cheaper material might have been best. Some of their houses are quite big and could fill up that floor area quite a bit.

Re: Rodipet cages!
I'd like to see one with a front opening like a viv, I might well be persuaded then lol! As for the lid opening, it does make hanging things difficult but than that's true of most tank style cages so I don't see a particular fault there. It is the main feature I don't like with any kind of tank tbh.
I do like the way it's only clear at the front & that would make a ham feel a lot more secure than a glass tank.
MDF does seem to be quite popular for cages in Germany so I would imagine that one would sell well.

Re: Rodipet cages!
It's a particular pet-safe grade of mdf by the sound of it too. MDF tends to be heavier than wood but anything that size would be fairly heavy I guess. It looks nice on legs I wouldn't have a problem with limited roof hanging toys in something that size - you can make up for it with adding platforms with toys on and could still have a hammock or sputnik or a tube tied to the roof if places carefully. I wish it said how big the slots were! You can assume they wouldn't be bigger then 1cm but it would be nice to know. Not sure how that would work for dwarf hammies.
