I used to have everything I own on Fitch except the long haired Syrians. But rising prices forced me to switch. I'm now using Finacard and can honestly say the animals don't mind the difference. It seems a lot more finer cut these days than when I used to use it a few years ago.

I've used cardboard squares and found them ok although wet, diabetic Chinese do end up with nasty smelling wet corners on this bedding as it seems to be not as absorbent.

Aubiose was great, never had an eye injury or anything like that but I disliked getting my own fingers stabbed and it made me sneeze :P

One of the best ways to find your best bedding is trial and error. There are few beddings/combos that I haven't tried so order some of your horse bedding and see how you get on with it.

Aubiose does sound a bit sharp if you get your fingers stabbed! I did find the big hemparade bales from zooplus a little bit scratchy but the Hugro is softer & no problems with that at all, just not so cheap.
The only damp or soggy bits I ever find are shredded tissue, maybe a little bit of fitch if it's only just been peed on but even that's rare.
I do agree trial & error is probably the only way if not the cheapest, we all have our likes & dislikes & one persons idea of dusty seems quite different to anothers!

I guess I'm lucky in that Charlie only ever pees in his litter tray and the rest of the substrate stays dry
