Re: Glass tanks
That depends on the size and height. If you put a tank on a tall dresser,it will definitely not be a fun situation when it comes to cleaning and interaction! If you can find a cheaper dresser or something(not as likely as most cost around the same amount unless you get extremely lucky with thrift shopping and used furniture)it might work well, but unless you do that it really isn't very cost effective especially if you have to get several tanks

Re: Glass tanks
I've got a couple of tanks that I use as 'Growing Up' cages for Chinese Hamsters. They work quite well for what I use them for but I probably wouldn't use one as a permanent home unless that particular hamster had a need for it.
I will either use a cube similar to this to add a water bottle to the tank or I'll use an extra strong velcro. Again this depends on the hamster's personality and I'd always use the velcro for a particularly mischievous hamster. You can also buy stands and hooks for water bottles but I've not tried them myself.

Re: Glass tanks
Tanks are heavy if made of glass. 70cm x 40cm is the minimum floor space for a dwarf hamster in the UK and 80cm x 50cm is for Syrians, although bigger is better as toys, tubes, houses and wheels etc take up a lot of space. You need to check the minimum cage size for whatever country you live in as this varies a lot.
Tanks can be harder to setup with regards to water bottles, shelves, platforms. They do however allow for more substrate for digging especially if you can get the right floor space with taller sides. A lid would be required to prevent escapes.

Re: Glass tanks
I prefer only to use tanks now. I use water bottles with suckers.

Re: Glass tanks
You can look on gumtree or another secondhand sales site for fish tanks. I got my 4ft fish tank for £58 which is a bargain for a tank that size. I use the living world bottle holder with the living world bottle. That included delivery (I asked if they would deliver it, and I offered I'd pay extra)
Bottle - Small Pet Water Bottles | Free P&P £29+ at zooplus!
Bottle holder - Living World Green Bottle Holder | Free P&P on orders £29+ at zooplus!
You will need a tank that is 3ft + to fit the minimum recommendation. You will also need to build a lid for it. I used some MDF and some wire mesh.
This is a picture of my tank when Winston used to live in it. The stand it is on is actually a shelving unit turned on its side. You can get similar ones from IKEA.

Re: Glass tanks
You can easily get velcro and attach the bottle that way, which should be more reliable for staying put actually.Certainly cheaper than buying an extra bottle just for the suction bit when you can modify tons of bottles for a few pounds or dollars depending on location!

Re: Glass tanks
You should be able to but the sucker things quite cheaply online, from Amazon, or even some shops should sell them. But I don't know how you attach it to the bottle!
