you could poor boiling water on it and give it a good scrub, then put it into the freezer.

Such a shame Yes cedar is a no no for hammies. The Cork bark should be fine - just a tip though - I would leave it in the freezer for at least a week. That way nothing that could be living in it can hatch. I've just had a moth infestation in the hamster cage! Eggs that hatched out I guess - the only new things were treats and a cork log.

I don't see why doing it the other way around would matter You'll just have to make sure it dries properly

Okay! Well, a week. I want to get Ambrose into his bigger cage as soon as possible, so I guess I'll have to wait a while to put the cork wood in, so it can get frozen and scrubbed properly. Better than having a moth infestation though! Haha Ambrose is such a little hamster, I bet a moth could pick him up and carry him away.

Ooh the image of that! Hamster flying on the back of a moth. Mine was pretty gross - the cage was crawling with them!
