Favourite toys for syrians
I'd like to give my hammy a more exciting environment. What do your syrians really enjoy playing with? I want to get him things he will like rather than what I think looks nice

My Sweep loves anything he can hide inside! I think at the moment his coconut is his favorite toy! Where abouts in the world are you? As it will help people suggest things better!

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
milo loves whimzee chews, those are always great and bendy bridges are also very good, i usually just use them as tunnels or turn them into an L shape in a corner of his cage and fill it up with bedding so he can dig, thats always fun

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
Sherbet loves tunnels but her favourite are her ferplast rat tunnels, trixie extendable tunnel, willow tunnel (also enjoys to chew this) and hyacinth tunnel (favourite to chew on to). Also bendy bridges are a absolute favourite of all my past Syrians, Sherbet is currently using a medium size to sleep under.
Also ceramic plant pots are a favourite place for Sherbet to store food or use them as a toilet.
Sherbet favourite chew toy is her boredom breaker wooden caterpillar (initially I bought it just to look nice in her cage but she decided to chew it up instead but some hamsters may not like this chew)

I'm in the UK. Thanks for those ideas! I'll have to get shopping
Do they go in anything that is suspended? I've seen lots of rat things that hang up, but wasn't sure if hamsters would like it.

No idea to be honest!
But, my Sweep LOVES this too It says it is for rats and the holes are quite big, but he is quite small so he can actually sit inside it! Small Animal Play Block | Pets At Home

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
PVC pipes are fairly cheap for Syrian sized ones(usually 5 dollars or less in the US,not sure about UK pricing)and they are pretty much indestructible unlike the OVO tubes and other plastic tubes for modular cages and such.Clay pots are generally best as a hideout, but they're really good for DIY toys to hide things in like nesting material and seeds and things if you get ones that are too small for the hamster to get in and I think they're also called terracotta pots in some places but they are virtually indestructible as well and very affordable even for large pots for Syrians to hide in!I think everyone has probably said this, but anything cardboard is in general very popular among small pets as a whole and it is one of the cheapest things to use for building DIY toys or even using cardboard boxes as hiding places.Just be creative and use safe materials and you can build your own toys for a lot less than some pet shops charge!

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
Love the pvc pipe idea! I've just put a little terracotta pot on on its side with some bedding in, and he's already enjoying exploring it. Thanks!

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
Mine love tunnels and anything made of cardboard which they hide in (males) or chew (Kashi, female).
All of them love their sand baths.

Re: Favourite toys for syrians
Twiglet, suspended rat sized tunnels and Sputniks can be great fun for a Syrian. I have two of each in my boy Mocho's barney cage. They add another level of exploration in the cage which they love.
