Default PlastiKote Help!

Hi All 😃

We bought April a Barney cage and have just painted the wood with PlastKote. It's all dry and ready to go back into the cage however the wood still feels like wood. It is meant to feel more plastic or look like there is a coating on it? We used the whole tube of plastikote but it was only 60ml. Do we need another one?
Tbh I don't think she will pee on it since she doesn't pee on the ramp or level of her cage just now but I'm still at but concerned if I'll be able to clean the wood if she does.

Thank you 😃

I haven't used plastikote before, but it sounds like it should be fine. You could try wiping it with a damp paper towel and see if it's ok and water resistant.

For a shelf one or two coats should be fine, a lot of the first coat usually sinks into the wood so it should be waterproof, too much & the wood gets a bit slippery!

Mine still looks like wood too Maybe less matt than before and with a slight sheen - it's more like a water based varnish than a plastic covering. I did two coats on two shelves with less than one pot, so you don't need much for a coat of it, but I believe two coats is best so you can wipe it clean (I just did the top of the shelves though). With the house you could just do the inside and the roof maybe.

When I've use plastikote it still looked and felt like wood, but I normally I sand down the wood with fine grit sandpaper before I paint it as then you can use one coat or I use 2 coats and between coats I use sand paper to smooth the base coat of plastikote so the second coat goes on easier so it has a smoother finish but you don't want it too smooth otherwise it can make it slippery.
