Default Mamble help

I have the mamble 100 rat cage for Arun (here he is in his playbox);

Its lovely and big and he has no problem whizzing all over it. I have got some extra shelves to put in it (thanks to Oscar's mum) but ... it is so hard to get the top undone and done up again.

I have heard that some people make the top into a lid. I tried. There are now cable ties all along the back but the sides are just awful to undo and do up again. HELP

Hi Flower, well guess I did the same thing you have done... I cut the top open as if it was a lid and put cable ties on one side and left the old hooks on the other side for it to close back on. I then clip the ends together with the little green plant clips I showed you in another thread...(you could use lobster clasps too!) Yes, its true, its not the most practical thing in the world, but it works alright. If you make sure to put water and food bowl downstairs so that you can easily access them on a daily basis, you dont have to open the top every day which makes it slightly easier Hope that helps!

I found opening the top a real pain tbh & had lots of things hanging from mine so it wasn't practical to use it like that, the doors are big enough to access day to day things so I just used those & took the whole top of if I really needed to do more, not sure if that would work so well if you have wooden shelves though.

I have put cable ties along the back. Is that what you did? Its the sides that I am finding so hard to undo and do up again. Did you use those plant clips to do up the sides with?

Thin lizzy he is rather wonderfully cute and fluffy. I must say having 1cm bar spacing gives me a wonderfully good view of him x

I do use the doors for feeding and watering Cypher but I was so hoping that the lid thing would work. He has two plastic shelves atm and I am going to add wooden shelving across the middle where there is currently a gap.

He is super cute Flower, to be sure!
I'll give you some pics of what I did with my cage. Yes, same as you, cable ties along the back and plant clips on the side. Some people dont like using these as they are plastic and chewable, but Oscar doesnt touch them. If you have a chewer you can go for metal lobster clasps that you can get on Ebay.

Oscarsmum i cant make out what kind of clip that is on the side also it looks like the original side clips are in place. They are the ones that i just cannot undo and do up easily. ..

Going to look up lobster clips now. I want something that can replace those pesky side clips.

Just ordered a pack of ten clips. Should make it a bit easier.

Here are a few of the plant clips. And yes, as you can see I left 2 of the original side clips. I find them quite easy to handle tbh. Just give the bars a wee push and then the top lifts off easily. I think if you first start putting lots of other clips on the sides too it would be a faff... But hey, we're all different

Let me know how you are getting on with the lobster clasps. Would love to see some pics of how you made use of the extra shelves!
