Default This ball ...

I found this old photo of a previous ham, Baby Belle, in this ball. Belle was quite a big girl, and she looks quite small in this ball, so I am wondering if it might be a rat ball, and if so if anyone knows where to get it as I have no idea where this came from! Sweep does fit in his ball, but if I can get him a bigger one then I'd rather he have that!

That looks like the Savic 25cm Rat Ball. I have one. If you were going to get a rat ball, the Savic is the only one that doesn't have massively wide slits in (not good for hammy toes getting caught). It annoys me actually - it's a well made ball but has humps inside so not always smooth running. Plus it comes in two halves, that fasten together fairly securely but sometimes there's a small gap between the two halves. Mine also had a couple of pointy bits of plastic inside, near the entrance, which needed sanding so the were'nt going to hurt or stick - but other people didn't have those bits. I'd say it was the best rat ball but I don't think any of them are great.

I don't personally get hamster balls, because I have heard it stresses them out.

I have a p@h large ball and i would say it's the same size as that, I've sellotaped the middle join just in case but it seems to be sturdy enough, Alfie's always running into things and it hasn't collapsed anyway!

Yes I hardly ever use mine - I should have said that before It can be a useful thing to have for carrying a hammy from one room to another so they can't jump or escape and hurt themselves - eg to the bathroom when taming. But I think a playpen is better and safer.

Definitely useful for carrying hams around! Not really worth paying tons of money for though since that's really all they're good for.

I'm not sure it stresses them out, I always give my hams a choice and they climb straight in and don't want to come out! My last ham wouldn't go in when she got older but that's cos at that point she had her own hamster proofed room to roam free every night.

I agree that they would be ok if your hamster has the choice.

A hamster proofed room sounds like a dream. Lucky girl.

Yeah, I have started using a plastic storage box to tame Peanut (only used it for about 5 mins last night) and she flinched a little at being stroked (which I expected) and she got a bit agitated after a while so I put her back, but to my surprise she started taking food from me with the cage door open!
