Carefresh COLORS
I know I've asked about Carefresh before, but can't find that thread to ask this question ... I was wondering about the Carefresh COLORS ... Is that ok? What sort of dye does it have in it to make it a different color? I'm assuming it's pet safe dye, but I worry too much!

Re: Carefresh COLORS
I've never used it myself but the packaging says non-toxic dyes and safe so I am guessing it is okay. And I'm sure we would know if it was unsafe, us crazy hamster ladies lol.

Re: Carefresh COLORS
Coloured carefresh can be dusty compared to the natural carefresh, my hamster Sherbet began sneezing when I used it, as she became allergic to it. Although you can get bags with no dust but some can be really dusty. If you get a good bag you should have no problem.
The dyes should be pet safe, but I don't know what the dyes are?

Re: Carefresh COLORS
My favorite color is white, then the purple is pretty too. I've had problems with the tan being real dry for some reason? Found the colors are softer. No problems with the colors that I have found?

Re: Carefresh COLORS
The good thing about white is that it makes spot cleaning real easy, I rarely spot clean with the dwarves but if Sweep isn't potty trained, can always consider the white? Some people don't want to see the urine though, so just a FYI

Re: Carefresh COLORS
Sweep doesn't seem to be potty trained, but at the same time I've never actually found an actual pee corner! I have noticed only occasionaly he will use the sand bath!

Re: Carefresh COLORS
I've used colours on occasion and found it ok. It's a bit expensive though so when I've used it I've just bought a bag and used it as a top layer on top of their regular substrate.

Re: Carefresh COLORS
Yeah it does seem to be expensive. I'm thinking of getting the plain one as I can get a really big one, and then either one pink and one blue for a Summery feel, or possibly the confetti one because that is both I think? Can't seem to find white anywhere?! Also, what exactly is Carefresh Ultra? It says something about it being better odur control, but I am unsure if it is the same or not?

Re: Carefresh COLORS
I think I've seen it used a fair bit. I always wondered about the colours too but haven't heard of any issues with it. I found Carefresh a bit dusty compared to Fitch. I think that was the ultra - I got it because someone told me it was less dusty. Many people are happy using it though and maybe bags vary. If Sweep is having a cage change you probably won't need much extra substrate at first if you move all his old substrate across to his new cage (which is probably a good idea to help reduce the stress of the change), but you could always mix a bit in and gradually add some, which is probably what you meant. Some people have one area of the coloured Carefresh and the rest different.
