It's quite soft and I find it dust-free which a lot of substrates aren't. Carefresh isn't actually paper, it's cellulose - the Fitch is just paper substrate. I still use torn up white toilet paper for nesting material and our hammy uses that to build his nest but he likes to take some of the Fitch substrate in for his nest as well and has built a huge nest lol!

I get the 10kg bag which lasts me about 6 months (doing Erin's cage cleaning method). Just think it's something that could be shared with your Sister maybe. You buy it online either direct from the manufacturer, or from Amazon (where it costs a pound or two more). I think if you live nearby the manufacturer you can just pick it up and get it even cheaper.

What is cellulose? I haven't ordered the colored carefresh yet, but ordered a couple of massive bags of the plain ones recently ... Now I'm worried it can't be used. It says on it that it is made of paper pulp ... I used to use Finacard. I quite liked that. Might get more of that ... Though Sweep isn't much of a chewer and I haven't ever seen him pouch anything let alone bedding or substrate ...

Essentially it's wood pulp. Most people have had no problems with it,and I at least would say in most situations it is safe especially with Syrians.Sweep shouldn't have any problems with it though, especially not being much of a poucher or chewer.

He should be okay if he isn't much of a poucher or chewer, but with me saying this neither was my chinese hamster. But with him being a bigger hamster he should be fine you might just have to watch him
